Default H22a Tops out at about 118mph

I swapped in a h22a but kept the h23 tranny. I was wondering if there was any way to make it top out at higher mph. This may be just some simple dumb question that everyone knows, but I'm not 100% sure.

H23 tranny is actually better if you want top speed. The speed governer is limiting you. Chip your ECU or get a USCM P13 (which doesn't have a speed governer).

what's up with all the lame comments.
I run into my speed governer every once and a while, when I go out driving at night on the empty highway, or when I feel like driving through germany or something.
How do you know he's not from germany or something and wants to hit the autobahn

Under his avatar it says "oklahoma city OK"

Though I am a thick headed "blode Ami" and my geography is generally atrocious I suppse there could be an Oklahoma Stadt, Ostfrießland Deutschland. Though I doubt it.

Normally I would not care about what speed you go. But over here in the states when punk kids take modified Hondas and other imports well into the 100s the law tends to frown upon it. Subsequently they start cracking down on the rest of us that seem to be in the same group. Not to mention if he kills someone and his insurance pays for damages/injuries then the insurance rates for the rest of us go up.

Take it to a road course or drag strip please.

The original poster never mentioned unlawful or unsafe activities, so we should probably assume that he is asking about this for some legitimate reason.

Maybe he's making a track car. Maybe he's looking into USTCC or Honda Challenge. Or maybe he just wants his car to do the best it can do.

We do not know, and we should not solicit comments that will lead to people talking about street racing or what they should not be doing on lonely roads at night.

Just help him with the chip and leave everything else alone.

but think about it this way..

if he doesn't know something like that and can't search for the answer himself. do you honestly believe that he is going to be in honda challenge or build a track car? based on his own knowledge and the question brought up, its 90% probable he will be doing highway pulls or an open strip at best.

He asked a simple question and never implicated he was doing anything illeagal.Every1 is always soooo presumptuous on ht...but I agree that a usdm p13 is the way to go iif that is the only goal you have in mind.....if you are actually going to get an ecu and tune it,any person with just about any system...ie chrome, hondata, neptune, whatever can remove the speed governor.

Not to thread jack, but i have a somewhat related question. I was wondering about top speed on an h23 with stock tranny and internals. I redline at about 120 mph if i remmeber correctly. DUMB i am, but if i boost i will still redline at 120 correct? Is replacing internals and uping the rev limiter the only way to increase top speed?

You should be able to get more than 120 with an SI. At least the speedo will read more. It doesn't matter what you do to the engine if you leave your ecu alone you will never have a higher limiter. Once you fix your limiter you will have to make more top end power. The most effective thing you could do with an h23 to increase your redline is do a vtec swap or swap to an h22. This will give you a 7500 redline. Then if you use different cams they can make power higher. For instance Skunk 2 stage 2 will increase redline to 8000 and stage 3 will increase it to 8500. Granted their is a lot of work and money into getting to that point but that is how you would do it. Also if you are interested in top speed then you should keep your si tranny. It has slightly taller gears than the h22 trannys.

Well aside from the negativity, like several people said, USDM P13. If you have mods (meaning beyond i/h/e and other bolt-ons), I reccomend getting it tuned. In which case, I reccomend a P28, chipped with Hondata S300, because it doesn't support a P13.
