what all should be changed durning a timing belt change?
I'm taking my car into a shop to have the timing belt done and i realized today that i have oil leaking into the spark plugs.
So, my question is would they replace the seal for the valve cover or should i do it. and should i do it before it goes in or after? One plugs got a little oil on it, the next one is covered and is actually dripping massive amounts of oil when i pull it out and the other 2 are fine.

interesting. Im not going to honda, so maybe i'll ask them to adjust my valves for me so they do it anyways hehe
Just go to a local mechanic and get the stuff done. The Honda dealership charges way to much. I got it done at a local mechanic for around 315$, and Honda wanted 700 for the same job. They need to take the valve cover off already so I bet it wouldn't be much to get done. It should take no more than 20 mins to do. If you do it, do it after the timing belt work. It probably is the gaskets leaking and becoming dry but you can tighten the valve cover sometimes and it will seal the spark plugs better.
Also get the water pump done.. and maybe a valve adjustment.

yeah man, im going to a machanic that my dads been going to for 15+ years. He doesn't usually do imports, but he like my dad for the business so hes gunna do it. Hes done them on accords before, so he knows what hes doing, but i guess i'll ask for the vavle adjustment. But the cover does actually come off when they do the timing belt

I'd be nevous of the quality of the work/parts if someone is only charging me $315 for a timing belt job on an Accord. Just my opinion.
yes, the valve cover does need to be removed when doing a timing belt job.
If they aren't going to replace the valve cover gasket set, just buy the set and do it after the timing belt is done.

im not sure if they will or not, i guess i should ask. I'm assuming they would want to though.. i mean they are a really good shop.
NEVER assume.
Always get a price with a list of the parts they will be replacing. Also, are these parts OEM or some aftermarket parts?
See my write-up for a list of parts.

OEM, hes good. I asked him when he did my axles.
He was like I stand behind what I do 100% therefore i don't feel like replacing them again (if i used remanufactored and they break) so he used OEM ones. Its about $500 for the tbelt and water pump, my local honda dealer wanted $700.

I sure hope he isn't charging you $500 for just the timing belt and water pump.
Have you thought about doing it yourself?

yeah but i go to school in RI, while my parents house is in CT and all my tools are in CT, i work on the weekends so i don't have alot of time.
And no, its for the seals, the t-belt, water pump, and the other belts. Honda wanted $700 or $750 i believe.

basically any wearable part that you take off to get to the water pump should be changed lsuch as drive belts, water pump, tensioner, any bolts that are load bearing, etc. Prolly not a bad idea to fush the system out with a hose either and replace all of your rad hoses

i replaced the radiator last summer, i should change the hoses though. They are doing all the wearables, they won't reuse any old parts.

I always recommend replacing upper and lower radiator hoses, spark plugs, dist. cap and rotor, valve cover gasket set, timing belt, water pump, accessory belts whenever I do a TBELT job
