What can I do with my front brakes?
I have a '01 Civic HX and I'm wondering if there are any affordable brake upgrades that I could do. Currently my brakes seem quite appalling in their performance, they have good bite when cold, but they fade easily when I brake firmly and repeatedly. Basically, as far as I'm concerned my brakes are not good enough for my mighty 117 HP.
What I want to know is, are there any other Honda/Acura cars that can be donors for larger front calipers and rotors? My last car was a 1990 VW Jetta GLI and with those cars you can take the brakes off of an Audi 5000 Turbo Quattro or even a Porsche 944 turbo and increase your braking power for very little cost. Are there any examples like this that would apply for my '01 HX?
Thanks,
Scott

You could try this: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1765987
It was in the FAQ's.
You could actually do a few different caliper upgrades without much modification. You'll just need to have the right size rotors to match.
Personally, you could go with some nice pads, a fresh set of Brembo blank rotors, some stainless brake lines, and some new fluid. And, that would be a huge upgrade, as is.

Scott,
I have an '04 Civic LX sedan and I had problems with my rotors warping after 10,000 miles when my car was new. resurfacing the rotors only lasted for another 10,000 miles. I purchased PowerSlot rotors and Hawk Performance brake pads and have very happy since. I now have 62,000 miles and have not had any brake problems. Since the upgrade I have enjoyed greater braking performance and no brake fade! Visit http://www.powerslot.com for more info on the rotors and brake pads. These rotors have a nice finish on them that won't rust and are made in the USA. I bought mine from http://www.tirerack.com. You can choose from ceramic pads or performacne pads from Hawk Performance. I have the performance pads on my Civic and the ceramic pads on my wife's Civic since she has alloy wheels (less brake dust). I put PowerSlot rotors on her Civic also. She loves the added safety of the better brakes. I hope this helps.
