Default Qs: wich gearing is better (4 speed close ratio or 5 speed)????

now im using ats gear 3rd,4th and 5th close gear with 4.4 fd..
tyre was 23nch (MH).. power was 300hp crank hp... arround 250whp S.A.E correction
finished on 4th gear on 9.5k. (sometimes it forced me to slice it to the 5th gear arround 20 meter before finish line)

friend of mine that has already run 11.3 sec said that :
"it better with four gear to eat the strip, so we couldnt lose time by shifting"

but when i saw leslie, eric (old coupe), etc, they finished on 5 gear.

next i would go with 2.2L setup (target gain more 15-20 more hp with pro 3 cam, now i run pro 2)
so i plan change my gearing setup... :

1. if i want optimum 4th gear maybe i would run 4.0.
2. if i want 5th gear maybe i would stick with 4.4 fd

-which one should i choose???? 4 gearing or 5 gearing???

-and would it be better if i change the 1st gear to 2.9 or 2.8???? now im still thinking that it (longer 1st gear) doesnt really important, because when it goes to 2nd gear i dont feel any drop in rpm.... but friend of mince said that i would need longer gear when i go with 2.2L, so the car would launch better (more minimum wheel spin)
need advice about this 'longer 1st gear' also...

plss. and thanks

well you fifth gear is gonna be overdrive....so not exactly what you want in drag racing. 4th would be direct so. either pick up some big tires or.... increase your final.

4th gear is usually better. Don't have to waste time changing gears. You pal is right. Shorter 1st gears is also better but i am not too sure of the 4.0 as if you race on a strip with VHT and stuff then you can generally launch a lot higher than on the street.
