TSB coming soon to a Honda dealer near you!
i have an appt with Holler Honda (locally here in Orlando, FL) for this issue. i work @ that dealer, bought the car there & it was the VERY FIRST purchase when we opened March 19th mind you!!), and i will not stand for this.
i expect to have a full report once i return home from work tomorrow either with a rental (if the issue is bad) or with my car...
here's the inside scoop of what i know thus far: Honda is FINALLY beginning to acknowledge all the reports & complaints/concerns. there will likely be a TSB (NOT A RECALL) on the tranny issue on the Si's '06/'07 2/4DR... related to notchy shifts, 2nd & 3rd gear failure, grinding, etc....
good idea for the timid tommy's of the world to come forth with your TRUTHS regarding the problems if you have them. we will be heard. slowly but surely! this RR FA5 has been my FIRST ever brand new car & i will not stand back & watch Honda turn the other cheek. you shouldn't either.
/soapboxrant_speech.
good luck to those trying to find a cure & good luck to those that will finally come out of hiding & start the ball rolling on a fix.
peace.
~Joey (Waterford Lakes, Orlando, FL)
p.s.-.....this is what i hear from MY dealer in specific
best case scenario: nothing wrong, no harm, no foul (HOPEFULLY!)
middle of the road scenario: tranny flush & refill with newer formula MTF
worst case scenario: demand a rental until the car has a new/rebuilt tranny

that loud bang is normal. it's wheel hop. alot of people get it.
and for the 3rd gear...mine slipped out about 3 times..since i've had her.
which was last november..

big props for bringing this to their attention. i hope they have to rebuild or replace the tranny (not to be a dick, but so maybe honda will wake up after this) and they do have a tsb out for it. i hear a lot of people having the car popping out of 3rd and glad my tranny has never done that. there was nothiness from 1-2 and a "wall" from 2-3 and so far my amsoil fluid as done a very good job of fixing that. i'm afraid that it may just be a temp fix and want honda to ******* wake up. if 3rd popped out on me i would raise hell like no other.
<FONT COLOR=""DarkRed"">results as promised from this morning's appt with my local Honda dealer/employer:
tech went on a test drive... decided i was a good candidate for the updated MTF fluid change. flushed out old fluid, added new fluid. took for another test drive; noticeable difference in performance of the shift-feel & response.
so all in all, $0 out of pocket & i was AT work while the car was in the shop... aka, i was PAID to put my car in the shop quite literally.
im pleased with the results & i do urge you Si owners to come out of your shell(s) if you havent already & get this stuff done. if anything, it at least leaves a good footprint with evidence of such a problem just in case something goes awry later on down the road. i have 5600 miles on my Si as of now for a mileage judgment.
good luck!! & thanks for Honda FINALLY taking notice & trying to actually help us out. :D props!!</FONT>

I changed out my MTF at 10K miles, and it felt completely different. Way easier to get into gear, especially right after start up. I was wondering if Honda was ever going to deal with this problem, I'm glad other owners can take advantage of this.
no. it is not as of yet.
however, this is something i think called, "dealer notes" & if an owner comes in concerned about the issue without already having prior knowledge, this is their procedure... *soo, shhhh about "the forums" when/if you guys go in there*

Whats wierd is its a sort of hit and miss thing. Some people have worse problems than others. A guy in the car group has a 07 RR Si and swears up and down it has shifting problems going into 2nd. Yet when I drove it I could not get it to do anything majorly different from how mine behaves...
Now ive been driving a standard for a long *** time and ive fucked up and grinded 3rd both times ive been in vtec and its pissing me the expletive off. sorry, but the damn car is 3 weeks old. this is bullshit. in case you cant tell, im pissed off about this b/s.
Ask a transmission tech at your local Honda store to show you the internal components of a Civic manual transmission. When you see the size of the gears and, more specifically, see how the synchomesh rings are designed to function, I think you'll realize why you must pause when shifting gears at maximum RPM. The synchomesh rings simply cannot slow down one gearset and speed up another quickly enough to allow them to mesh without grinding. It's simply a matter of phyics: gear weight & rotating mass.
You now know that, in your transmission, third gear will grind virtually every time you attempt a max vtec shift. <U>It absolutely will not get better with time.</U> You can change transmission oil, but that usually only works for a short time. (That's because the gears literally chop up the molecules in the oil, wearing out the additives.) But, if you continue what you experienced, it's only a matter of time before the synchomesh rings will fail; they will either break or wear so thin that they cannot function at all.

another satisfied customer today @ Holler. my buddy Mario (dunno if he's registered here??) has my twin car same color same everything... go figure; same issue with the tranny as well. he dropped by for a simple oil change in the quick service lane today about afternoonish but also mentioned something bout a "sticky" tranny especially 2nd & 3rd...soooo in the shop it went no questions asked!!
oil was changed... then another tech went on a test drive, noticed the notchiness & cured the problem by draining the old & adding the new MTF.
Mario called me a couple hours ago & was ecstatic with the change in the feel of the shifter & the linkage, etc... he couldnt believe something so simple could be so beneficial.
thats 2 RR FA5s satisfied 100% here locally.
call it what you will & hate on if you choose...but results dont lie. & hell, if the notchiness comes BACK, well the paperwork is filed on this visit to service therefore they cannot deny us another fix should it be deemed necessary. thanks for your criticism tho... :D
