i want to paint my rims but i have some ???
wassup H-T?? well hey, i've got some vx rims from a good friend of mine and damn they are light compared to my em1 si rims. I wanna paint the rims white.... but i can only use a spraypaint. i don't have an airbrush. What's the best type of spray paint i could use? i do want to use a 2 stage paint... white, then clear. Anyone kno the color code for the white type r rims? would it be bad to use paint that had clear already in it? i basically wanna make it looks as clean as possible without any orange peel. i've painted lil things before but never rims. thanks for the advice in advance people.
Get some duplicolor wheel paint, that stuff is the best for painting wheels in my opinion, from a spray can anyway. They make all different colors, and their white is pretty bright.
Just mask off the tires if theyve already got tires on them, and spray. Do light coats, cover the whole wheel. Hold the can about 8 inches away from the rim. What i did was do one coat side to side, then turned the rim, and did another coat side to side. I was painting steelies though so there were lots of ridges and bumps i couldnt really get at while only spraying from one side.
The paint is pretty much self leveling too so you dont really have a problem with runs unless you screw up and spray a spot too heavy.
They also make a clear that they recommend to use afterwards, i didnt need it, but its listed on the back of the can. I think its just their regular clear but i cant remember.

i agree. scuff the rim really good with a red scotchbrite pad your local paint supplier can make you paint in a can that is 1000 times better. i'd also use high build spray can primer if i were you. and clear the **** out of it and you should have no problems
