I'm getting ready to either rebuild the transmission with an lsd and a longer 1st gear or go with some traction bars. I was looking to see which would be the most beneficial. I would like to do both, but right now I can only afford to do one. I have talked to a few people and some say lsd, some say traction bars. I don't know if I'll find a conclusive answer, but just looking for people who have used one or another

i have an extra trans, but if i do lsd; thats when i would do the 1st gear as well. It's either gear+lsd or traction bars right now

im in the same boat.
LSD hands down. kill 2 birds with 1 stone, traction, and a bullet-proof diff.

sounds like a good idea to me lol. Did you guys really notice a difference when switching from open diff? i asked a few people in the sohc boosted thread and I got the impression from some people that traction bars would be better and that lsd would help mainly in curves. Seems like most of you visiting this forum would have a good idea though
i noticed more in the upper gears. it still spun like a ***** in 1st and 2nd, but in 3rd it reduced the spin quit a bit...and yes it helped a TON in the corners, or just getting on it coming out of a corner....i have to say other than the turbo, the obx lsd was the best mod i did to that car...
going from a 6 point to a 10 point roll cage made the biggest difference in my car. (other than making more power obviously)
i dropped a consistant tenth with a lsd.
i didnt drop any et with traction bars

"traction bars" really don't deserve that name and i'm not really sure at what point they got that name. lol They don't increase traction in any way. The take the slop out of the rubber suspension bushings and help eliminate wheel hop if you have any, and help maintain more consistent alignment geometry going down the track.
LSD does make a difference, though not nearly as much of a difference as people think they do, for drag racing anyways. They make a huge difference on a road course..

^ agree with you 1000%
LSD is will improve your traction on the street through corners.
Traction bar help eliminate wheels hops which will help your launch on the drag strip. wheel hops can break axles and destroy open diff.
if you do a lot of drag racing, go with traction bar. if you do a lot of street driving, go with LSD.
when i sold my type R swap to a guy who put it in a EG, he snapped an axle with just 190 whp because of wheel hops. the tranny also has KAAZ LSD but it didn't help with wheel hop. when the same setup was in my car, i had traction bar and did many launches on slicks with no problem.

Would you also agree with updating the front suspension bushings and ball joints before doing traction bars to see if that would help with any wheel hop issues. I just don't see the point in spending $ on traction bars if you have a shot front suspension to begin with.
even with new suspension bushing, you're still going to get some wheel hops because the bushing are design to flex. with a traction bar, you're wheels are not going to move forward or backward even if the bushings are bad. stiff engines is will also help with wheels hops.

those are nice but they cost almost as much as traction bar.

ridiculous price on those!
LSD will help in any instance where traction is lost by 1 wheel. LSD will send torque to the wheel WITH GRIP as opposed to an open diff which will continue to send torque to the wheel WITHOUT grip (hence 1 wheel peel).
traction bars helped with my wheel hop tremendously.
