Deal? Well, I have one And the only one SMSP is the screen name for sms products on this board, shoot him a Instant Message.. I believe we are going to work on a 4-2-1 design and test it before the header hits the market.. A lot less trimming of the crossmemeber will probably need to be made using a 4-2-1 design....

as of now there is only one h22a header available, and honda318dx has it. its a 4-1 design but a large section of the crossmember had to be cut out to make it fit. the search on this site sucks, but try searching for posts by "SMSP" in the prelude forum and you can probably find some pics. as i know it, next up is the 4-2-1 prototype and assuming it yeilds nearly the same gains, that will probably be the production one that goes on the market.

of course this is all just speculation by me, hopefully SMSP will reply and give you a more direct answer.

It's going to be very close but hopefully the 4-2-1 will be available for Summit next weekend.

Well the current wait is around 3-1/2 months for any header so that's at least the minimum for a H22 header. It will be priced in the neighborhood of my other headers which are similar to the Mugen. The reason the American Iron stuff is as cheap ($) as it is, is because of the shear volume of pieces that are made. The same could be said for the DC prices. These places buy literally miles of tubing at a time. Look at the tubes sizes for the majority of DC headers, 1-5/8 primaries and 1-3/4 secondaries. Then the DC JDM header for the B18 and the USDM 4-1s for the GSR and ITR use 1-3/4" primaries. I can't imagine the pricing that they get on their material.

I know a guy who mandrel bends for a lot of comapnies under contract and he just bent over 1000 roll bars for the Mustangs. Numbers like this is what drives the prices down.

Here's a quote from a guy who lives across the world from us that I was helping out on the design of his header that he built himself. It was just too costly for him to order a header from outside of his country.

"I have finished the headers, I can now understand why a custom header costs a lot more than an off the shelf piece .... its a LOT of work !!!"

Will you be packaging the Prelude as a system, like you did with the Integra? In other words, would you have pre-bent catback pieces as well as the header available?

At some point in the future I'd be interested in something very similiar to what is now available for Integras. Your 4-2-1 header, 2.5" carsound cat (maybe that one with the integrated resonator), 22" resonator, all the appropriate mandrel bent tubing (aluminized steel), and a generic straight through muffler. If it could be done for under $1200, I'd be a happy man.

Maybe I'd drop some extra cash for a twin-pass muffler - trying to keep my noise profile as low as possible.

Dustin, I don't follow your reasoning about size. It sounds like you know the price of the Mugen piece and it should be in that range. I don't have a set price on it right now because the design is not finalized. Also, vendors are not supposed to post prices of their products in the general forums and I abide by that rule. But the complexity of the design, #of bends, # of welds, types of collectors and # of collectors determines the amount of labor involved in building one of these pieces.

Will the 4-2-1 fit a 97+ prelude or you need another car for that? Thanks

Haha, considering the only difference is a few inches... I don't know maybe for measurement purposes...
