I'm going to do you the favor of writing you and acutal reply, which seems to have become quite the rarity on this "forum". I thought the point was to share and gather information, but now it's just "do a search" or something not-very-helpful like previous replies to your question. FYI, you can find much better information from much nicer and smarter people elsewhere...

Anyway, the d-series JVT-R header can be had for $120 shipped on tunerzimage.com, last I checked. It is stainless and appears to be well made. I read a thread on d-series.org about someone who didn't like the sound after he installed the JVT header, but he didn't have a cat or resonator and a N1 style muffler, I believe. A proper, and legal, exhaust after the header would probably sound nice.

I plan on getting this header for my LX with a high flow cat to complete my exhaust system. The price alone is worth trying it out. Do you have any other engine mods currently? It should be more than adequate for a lightly modded d-series engine. Why spend $300+ on the trendy brands when this does the same thing?? Good luck in your quest for knowledge!

thank you swerv for a well put answer to a good question. to answer the other question about why cylinder 1 is with 4 and 2 is with 3 one needs to look at the firing order of the engine. this firing order makes a "pulse" of sorts and because 1 and 4 are opposite each other and 2 and 3 are opposite each other. the only way fumes will not get caught up in one chamber in a 4-2-1 design is to have the opposites on the same pipe flowing into the large chamber that leads to the catalytic converter. this is essentially how the 4-2-1 exhaust is able to produce higher power over a stock header.

Yea i have also looked at this header and wondered...really what IS the difference?! Please leave some feedback about the header because I too dont feel like spending anymore then$150-200 on a header. They seem to do the same thing as a high-end header. But if you could let us know how it works! Greatly Appreciated

Well, your short ram intake has it's best potential for high end power. A 4-2-1 header is designed for low-end and mid-range power, where 4-1 (Megan) is said to be better for high end. Before the flames start, I know that both have been dyno'd to show the opposite, but that is the theory.

So, If you want good torque and driveabilty, that means CAI or modded OEM intake, 4-2-1 header, cat (hi-flow or not), and not too large of an exhaust. 2.25" is fine, I went with 2" catback piping not having VTEC. High end is the other way- SRI, 4-1 header, no cat and a larger exhaust diameter, but you'll lose low-end torque without a cat. I hear the Megan has a true 2.5" collector, where most headers for us are 2.25"-2.35" or so. 4-1 headers will typically sit lower to the ground as well, due to design, if clearance is an issue for you.

It seems that the Megan would best compliment your current setup, but I still think you should try the JVT and let us know what you think...not much feedback for that piece at the moment. The rest of your system sounds like a good idea. I don't know how twin loops perform, but I can tell you that my straight through MagnaFlow oval muffler flows well and isn't loud without a resonator. I still have the stock manifold cat though so I can't comment on sound with a header. If you keep the cat you won't need a very large resonator. How concerned are you with noise levels?
