Golden Eagle makes a good block guard. Make sure you have it installed by a machine shop and its welded in place. Then have your cylinders honed, AFTER its welded.

I would just much rather have my block Bead Blasted than painted. Looks really nice and natural. Gives it a nice finish.

As far as the temperature, it shouldn't effect it, you ARE using high temp paint so no heat can escape...but the difference is gonna be null.

As for the block guard.....They work sometimes for Nissan.....I've seen 'em work <5x on a Honda...dunno why...I just never see 'em work on Hondas...

Painted mine. Looks awesome 24/7, easy to clean, never a single issue. I can't see how it would make much difference in temperature. People have been painting engines for years, wait, decades...

I dont know why, but I have just never liked how painted blocks turned out. If they went with a silver/natural type color it seems to come out too bright and gotti. And if its an unatural color it just doesnt look right. Just my .02
