Default Shift light installation

O.K. I have an Autometer Monster Tach, but its all messed up. I have seen many cars with just the shift light and I was wondering how to install it without the tach itself. I have a DX, so no tach in the cluster. I have read that you need an rpm module, but is that true?

if the tach doesn't work, then you will have to get something to run the shift light. i would suggest either autometer's part or a summit racing rpm activated switch might work as well

I found Autometer's RPM module, but its around $100. Is there a DIY that anybody knows of?
