May buy this integra...awesome deal..I think.
Okay, I know this doesn't have to much tech involvied so I hope it doesn't get moved. I work a car dealership and some older lady just traded in a 98 White integra GSR. I know it's a gsr because it has the dohc vtec engine.
the car has 53K miles on it. and I can pick it up for $4,100.
Now the bad:
It was hit in the side, in a parking lot. It's missing a rub strip and has a decent dent in the door. also the rear fender wells are rusting. And it has a few scratchs in the bumper.
The motor and tranny are TOP notch. No noises or anything. It's going to need brakes. No viberations but they are just worn.
How much will it cost to have a decent body shop take car of the rust?
The interior is clean. never been cleaned, but no rips or tears or anything. the paint...well...is going to need some TLC. a good clay and buff and wax and it will be new agiain.
Without pictures do you guys think this is a good deal? What issues should I look for under the hood and suspension and what not. This would be my first honda...

I hope you are not in the sales department to be asking this sort of stupid question.
1.) you are buying a car with body damage
2.)car+taxes+fees=actual purchase price (i really hope you dont belong to the sales department and not know this)
3.) Even if you buy it from a wholesaler, $4100 is a lil too much for a 9yo car. I dont care what the mileage is...its a honda.
4.) dont forget your repairs and maintenance. eg. brakes etc.
5.) good luck. its not that awesome of a deal...i work for a honda dealership and trust me...we wont give you more than $3000 for that car. try to negotiate with them a bit.

without pics its hard for us to estimate anything man...but a 98 GSR for 4100 is a really good price if they body damage is less than a thousand..+ clean tittle...
its an ok deal cause i got my gsr wit skunk2 supsention/ greddy exaust/type r tranny/ leather back seat, for only 3,500: all i really had to do is put some wheels on my car and give it a paint job and im more then good. but most people dont come across a deal like that. so see what else is out there then make your decision.

Just to update you guys.
Well, my dealership paid 3,500 for the car, but I have to tack on a mandatory $600 shop fee.
I guess I explained the damage a little exagitory... It would be under a grand to fix it all and make it perfect...but
I put the car on the lift today and yuck!
It must have sat in a field for a year!
It was all rusted out.. the u-joints and control arms are tight but the fuel, brake and power steering lines are all rusted out very bad. With a bit of heavy braking I could see the brake lines exploding.
also the fuel tank straps are rusted pretty good as well as well as the fuel reciving line.
but thanks agian for the advice!

How often do you see 98+ gsrs go for under 5 grand with any amount of miles.
I rarely see that and if I do its because they run poorly or have damage.
I almost always see them in the 6-8,000 range depending on condition

are you sure the mileage is actual? it shouldn't be rusted inside and out like that.

Yes it is documented.
I'm from Buffalo. The weather and salt here destroys cars!
Do you guys still think I should buy this even though the lines are rusted...and under the hood is pretty rusted as well?

I wouldn't buy a car that is near rusting out. unless you get it for 2K (preferably less) and put the engine and tranny in some shell that is in good condition.

Wow I couldnt disagree with you more... 55K miles is hardly anything. Plus, I would pay alot more for a grandma owned GS-R than some punk kid owned one.... 4100 is a pretty solid deal. I payed 5 for my 95 with 132K miles.. Grandma owned, and the thing drives like brand new, def. worth it. Body not perfect, nor is the paint, but its decent.. So I would do it for sure... Even if you have to drive it beat up, drivetrain couldnt be more solid.

its not a bad deal if you are willing to fix some of that stuff. its only got 53xxx miles on it, plus its a gsr and its only 4100. if you have to put 3k into it its still a hell of a deal.
hey guys...I was referring to the needed maintenance on this. Taking into account that the buyer was from NY and the possible salt damage on it (and i was right!) plus the pre existing damage already. I would rather go to another state and buy a clean teg from there.
Im reading his post and seeing "headache" written all over it. Maybe it has only 50K/mi but its a honda engine...how bad can that get? you can buy a honda with 100k/mi and it will run the same way.
If you are having second thoughts about this car after seeing the required maintenance/repair...drop the ball and walk away. That is the first sign of regret.
