rear disc warped - surface or replace
hi all
I have a 2004 Ex accord driven like a baby. Has only 35k miles. I had no issues what so ever till now.
But during last service at dealer, I was told some crap about rear right side rotor. It is rusted and I should have done brake servicing earlier. Rotor should be replace immediately ...
I didn't go for that.
I do see a deformation and there is no rust. I see a slight dip about 1 cm on the edge of rotor.
Now if I brake on free way at greater than 60 mph there is vibration at sterring and noise from back.
My question can I get the rotor resurfaced..?
I read some where the honda uses a material in their rotor which can not be resurfaced..
If I do have to replace rotor any recommendations (which brand) ?
Thanks

you would have to have the thickness and face run-out of the rotor checked. If the run-out isn't bad and can be turned out without turning the rotor below the minimum thickness then you can do either, it's up to you. But if the run-out is too great and turning it out would bring you below spec then you will have to replace them.
Most find it easier to just replace them.
If you buy new ones, Brembo is a good brand to buy.

Usually if you feel shaking in the steering it's a front rotor. Rear rotor is felt more in the seat. Use the handbrake to see if it shakes then.
Most places that resurface rotors will measure them on the spot & hand 'em back to you if they're too thin. Run-out might still get you, but at least it's a quick check before they even start the job.
