Tie Rod
My car is making bumping-squeaking noises and I think it is time to replace the tie-rods.
Should I buy the boots or the assembly and where is the best place to buy them!!
Thanks, Matt

Both inner & outer tie rod ends. I just had mine changed out for these (with OEM boots) and they're great quality - cheap as well. Many people will recommend them. Give 'em a try.

if you had bad tie rods, they would have told you and wouldn't have done the alignment until you replaced them.
IF they were a good alignment shop. you sure it's the tie rods that need replacing?

just curious, do you have any harder bushings or mounts on your car, like energy suspension or anything polyurethane? they could make noise when not lubed up well, just a thought. Oh and I just did both outer tie rod ends on my car in like 45 min, then got aligned so now my car goes straight and I dont fear for one breaking and killing my car!
nope, no aftermarket bushings....i mean its a 93 original tie rods.....i would think its about time to be replace....the mechanic at a good shop said they were fine.

If your steering is wobbly or doesn't seem confident over uneven road then it probably needs to be changed. But take a look at them, and if the boots are undamaged and the ball joint on the outer rod is good condition then it's probably ok.
But hey the tie rods are cheap enough for you to do anyways for piece of mind, and the install is not very hard at all. Took me about an hour for me. You'll need a pittman arm puller, inner tie rod remover tool, and the special attachment for that tool to latch onto the inner tie rod end. All of these tools can be rented out at autozone.
- Take the pittman arm puller and pop the ball joint off
- unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner rod (count the threads REALLY carefully if you want to keep alignment right)
- Pop off the inner rod boot. This part is the hardest part because its clamped on with some very stubborn metal clamps. You'll probably damage the boots trying to rip it off, so buy a new one.
- Use the inner rod remover tool with the attachment on it to remove the inner rod from the steering rack.
- Reinstall new parts in reverse.
- Your alignment will still be slightly off no matter how well you count the threads though.

Last night I finally took off the wheels on the right side of the car and found that the upper and lower tie rod bushings were torn in the middle with no lubricant.
I went to a very well-known shop in the area and will be making a phone call.
I should have taken some pictures, do I replace just the bushings??
