Default oil catch can w/turbo setup

whats up yall. hey im stumped about the oil catch can setup for a boosted car. okay i have an ls vtec with a b18a1 bottom end and b16 head. i do have the black box (pcv chamber) behind the block. my pcv system is hooked up but when i boost i know its a good idea to get a catch can. it is a different setup than a NA setup. my question is what is the proper way to set up a catch can on a boosted setup? (ive read almost every catch can thread but still need some advice).

well from what I gather the problem seems to be pulling vacuum and keeping that vacuum source clean. You can run your pvc to a catch can and then back to your intake manifold but then it will gum up your intake mani plus pull "bad air " into the combustion chamber. You can pull vacuum from a small tube between the inlet of your compressor and air filter, but again youll pull expent gases back into your engine along with some oil into the compressor. Alot of people have suggested to me to just vent both the pvc and vale cover into the atmosphere via catch can. While ery easy to do this I am still worried how thiss will effect built up gases in the cylinder block?????

yeah ive done some research too about vacuum for the setup. i know you can put a catch can between the pcv and the intake manifold on NA setups. but on a boosted set up ive been reading that it different. such like that you would have to block off the pcv chamber hole and run two lines from the block to the catch can and then filter it. but basically i dont know which one is best for turbo.

ight i think im just gonna run the catch can off the nipple off the valve cover, or even run new lines off the valve cover. after talking to many people they say that would probably be best. but if anyone has any other suggestions def let me know. thanks guys.

if you decide to run a catch can make sure you place it as high as possible in your egine bay..that way you dont have any unburned fuel or excess oil going into your catch can

The two lines that are coming from the drivers side fitting on that setup is no different than just doing 1 line to the bottom...

If you aren't pushing big hp numbers you'll probably be just fine with a vented valve cover.

This is a catch can topic, where are the horrible crayon-like 5-year old style drawings??????

Such a simple topic......if you would really read up on it instead of saying you do like most others...it would all make sense.

OEM PCV does not vent during boost. Add fittings and hoses to a can with a filter on it. Really doesn't matter where from, pressure will find a way out no matter where you put it. I personally like the valvecover.

Damn..I summed it up with one sentance. How is that confusing????

yeah thats what ima do. i understand now that in boost there is no vacuum of the pcv system (so the oem one will be fine when not in boost) so im just gonna run it off the valve cover and call it a day.

Right, but if only the bottom line was run on that side, it would still vent the same under pressure and act as a drain back when there's not pressure, exact same as it's doing now.

Im in the same boat. Ive read all the threads and yet am still a little confused. I think the best would be to run two lines from the block (freeze plug) to a can. Or if your lazy remove the pvc plug and run one line straight into a catch can. I have my pvc unplug from the intake and aimed the hose to the ground. Probably not the best for enviromental standerds but I had a cut hose and thats the only thing I could do at the time. I will eventually run it into a can and put another vent in the valve cover. Sound right?

Endyn is a great company and I think there kit is amoung the best. But yeah the pvc is closed during boost and I dont think I'd want to drain that **** back into the block.

I wouldnt run a hose from the valve cover just drill and tap another hole for one more breather.

The reason we have it setup up like that is for drain back purposes. Air will take the path of least resistance. If for some reason your car is spitting a lot of oil into the catch can, it will start to fill up. Then you decide to do another pull while its draining back, and the oil is still in the drain line. The T'ed line going to the side of the can will allow the air to take a clean path to the catch can.

There are many ways to setup up a catch can. It ultimately comes down to how the customer wants to hook it up. If their not sure I will give them a recommendation. B R Fittings is not just a fitting company. My business partner and I have 10+ years each of racing experience.

The z10 is a nice kit. But if there was one thing I would change it would be their garden hose. Steel braided is much nicer.

^^^ ''garden hose'' lol I agree, that's why I change it 2 steel braided lines it looks way better
