Default How to replace transmission housing?

Hello I have an integra with a cracked transmission housing. I am getting estimates to replace this thing between $700 and $1500. I went to the local junkyard and found a similar integra except mine is a gsr and this one is not with the transmission laying on the ground. My question is, I don't know anything about fixing cars but I do really want to learn, how hard would it be for me to take this housing off the junkyard transmission so I could give it to the mechanic and have him replace it for me?
