Default Need some advice, tranny issues (M2S4 just blown.. rebuild or replace?)

I can get a JDM H22A w/ LSD tranny for $800 ..

Here's what happend , downshifted hard into vtec, revs went way up and then to idle... I can move the shifter around like a joystick control .. up down left right, full 360 degrees, nothing is engaging. the cables still move at the transmission, clutch still moves, but there is no gear to be found or engaged.

Should I, or at this point is it possible, to rebuild this M2S4 that has over 276,000k on it.. ?

Also, what does it sound like has happened?

Thanks in advance for advice...

(also, when replacing the transmission myself, how high up do I need to jack the car? I only have 5" - 18" jack)

what happens when the car is put into first and the clutch is slightly let out?

also, what happens if you try to put the car into gear without the clutch pressed?

maybe a broken shifter fork? but that doesnt really explain why you can move the shifter around like a joystick. do the shifter levers move their full range? and lock into place if you move them by hand? if you start the car in neutral, do you hear any grinding?

engine starts up, runs great as usual, however even with it running, clutch not depressed, the shifter still moves around like a joystick ... theres nothing to engage into, i move it as if i were putting it into first, and pushed all the way forward, i cna slide it alll the way to the right and then back to left .. it goes way more forward and back than it ever has before, but im assuming its not snapped because while my friend was moving it around, i watched the cables on top the housing moving around ... im baffled.

"I can get a JDM H22A w/ LSD tranny for $800 .."

If that is true why is this even a question? Even the m2b4 for 800 is a good deal lol.. Buy it, yank the tranny, sell the engine and your blown tranny and make money. No brainer....

What would the symptoms of a broken shift cable be ?? ...

When I had my friend move the shifter, the arms still moved on the transmission when I was looking under the hood ..

do they lock into place when they move, or just move a bit then go back to their original position?

I'm going to have to look ito that more, it would certainly explain how loose the cable is ... a buddy just now told me to manually flip the arms on the tranny ...

Any other things I should try when I'm there to narrow down the problem?

thinking on it more.. i think they moved a bit and went back into position

Verdict is in : new tranny to be had .. (M2A4 will cost $600) ..

As you can see, cables are still in tact... but its pulling the one fork right out of the transmission. That shiny silver part should be IN the tranny ....
