Default Starting car issues.

Tried starting my car tonight and got nothing at all. Turned the key all the way and it didnt even whine. All the lights were dimming so maybe I thought alternator. I actually had a OBDII Code Reader in my back seat so I threw it on hoping it could tell me some info. Plug it in and turn key to ON and the reader dies. Weird.

Open the hood to make sure the battery was hooked up all the way and looked fine. Keep in mind this a Optima Yellow Top not even 1 year old.

I figured I might as well try to jump it just to see if it starts. Yes it starts. Weird because I did not leave any lights on in the car. Don't know how it happened.

So when I get home I keep it running a little bit just to charge it up a little. I get out and turn my Viper Alarm on and the beep is very very quiet. I unlock the doors and go inside and try to start the car again and I get the same issues. Lights dim and no start.

The alarm couldn't even lock the doors. I could hear it trying to but nothing. All it did was throw the light on.

It was getting late so I just manual locked the doors for the night.

Any help guys?

EDIT: This is an alarm installed by Best Buy a little over a year ago.

Sounds like a bad alternator.

I also think so too. That or I should try recharging the battery a little more?

Man that sucks. Sounds like a similar issue i had with my dad's car. Died while driving and jumped it to start, then it died basically everytime we would come to a stop. Took about 6 jumps to get home. Took it to the shop just got a new alternator and it was fine =].

take the battery tomorrow to autozone to see if its a bad battery, that way you can cross that off if its not bad, but it sounds more to be an alternator issue than a battery isuue.

It's the alternator, usually they are the one to charge your battery when it's use for long period of time. If the alternator doesn't work, there aren't any charge to start the car, your results of having now power to drive. It's good that your safe, and got the car with a fresh new alternator to pump up the power. hehe
