Default using a GS-R timing belt on a LS? searched

I've searched before anyone is trying tell me to search. the only thing that I got was that the water pump needs to be changed.....anymore?

I am currently building up my engine(LS, B18A1 non-Vtec) and want to use a stronger timing belt like greddy or toda. the probelm is that they only make there timing belts for B series V-tech engines.

what would I need in order to use a GS-R timing belt. I havent bought a water pump and I can change my crank timing gear if that is needed, but what would I need to use a GS-R timing belt on a LS? thanks in advance

You'll going to need a gsr water pump and timing belt. That should be all you need for it to work.

what about the timing gear on the crank? does that need to be changed to a GSR?

Same for gsr/ls.The gsr has more teeth on the water pump and a longer belt. This slows the pump speed on the gsr that revs higher.

so will this not work the way I want it to? I just want to use either the Toda(really leaning towards this one) or greddy timing belt. I found that greddy has a belt for the LS now. now after researching other parts, I had really put my mind to using a GSR pump with the toda timing belt, but not if it's longer. it's going to skip if it doesn't fit right. right?!?

I doubt a honda timing belt would snap on you in 60k miles. it would probably even be ok to 90k unless you are a complete *** to your motor.

and it is a longer belt because there are more teeth on the waterpump. it would still fit the cams/crank.

the only difference between GSR and LS as far as timing belt goes is that the GSR is slightly longer because the GSR has a bigger water pump gear because it revs higher.

so basically if you use a GSR water pump, you can use a GSR timing belt no problem. crank timing gears are all the same on b series.

thanks spets, but I know that honda timing belts are good, but I just want to go with something stronger than OEM. the reason being is because I am building my engine up and want to use a stronger timing belt.

Use a GSR water pump as mentioned before BUT the stock timing belt is more than enough for anyone. Don't get roped into marketing hype

OEM here and I've yet to hear of anyone having problems with them. Got a few friends running greddy but even they will admit its just because they want to say they have greddy on their car lol
