Heater Core question...
my heater core is leaking, giving me a pleasant mist from hot coolant on the inside of my windshield.... fun, cancer.
In doing the job, i've been told that i might have to remove the evaporator in order to remove the heater core. My question is whether or not this is necessary. I understand I have to gut the dash and steering column, but before i get *****-deep in this and find out that i'm going to have no choice but drain my freon, I would like to know I can forego this unpleasant step (whereby i'd be more inclined to just pay someone).

unless you are really strapped for cash or enjoy headaches I would just let someone else do it, the heater core is a bitch to do and requires a lot of time. Its one of those jobs where after taking everything apart it will look like a f'in mess and you are going to wonder if you can ever put it back, maybe you can, maybe you cant...but afterwards driving down the road you are gonna hear these mysterious noises coming from the dash that will annoy the hell out of you because you broke some random clips or ended up with "extra" parts.
honestly, what is the worst part? I just did an H22 swap... trust me i'm not scerred
If there is something in particular that you already know I should watch out for, keep in mind, etc., it'd really help me streamline the operation, and I would really appreciate it. That way i'll have extra whatever that i'll need before i get started.
