Default anyone using crower cams??

im about to order some crower stage 2 cams w/stock idle lobes. anyways, they say you must use crower spring kit and retainers. that i understand. however there is a little note at the bottom that says use of this spring/retainer kit MIGHT CAUSE lifter interference due to an .060 retainer spacer that alows more spring travel. the cure for the interference is to have the bottoms of the lifters machined.

anyone had to do this? how can it 'maybe' cause interference. you would think it iether would or would not. what is the deciding factor?

if anyone knows of a better cam that will give good top end and not really sacrafice drivability, could you post a link or something. thanks

it might cause interference because there is a casting line down the rocker that could be raised on some rockers more than others. its the clearance between the retainer and the rocker you are looking at. personally, id grind it down myself with a cartridge roll because thats probably what they'll end up doing at a shop. get the clearance where you want it and thats it. its not anywhere near as complicated as it seems.

I have this exaxt setup. The retainers will end up hitting the bottom of the rocker arms with crower retainers and springs bc of the extra height. Def need to get them machined or go with a diffrent spring/retainer combo.

I just grind them on a pedestal grinder, it takes about 30 seconds a piece. IMO the offset crower retainer/spring combo is the best there is as far as retainer to valve stem seal clearance.

thats a stock retainer with a clearanced rocker. you can see where an offset retainer would be close to hitting.

well you will kinda see it once you have the rocker in your hand, but when you are done the underside will be a smooth radius like in the pic.

as it comes stock there is a bulge of material around where the vtec pin is and that is basically all that needs ground off on the bottom.

just be sure you clean them really well afterwards as the grinding grit will get everywhere and is sometimes hard to clean up.

also, grind parallel to the casting mark. if the grind perpendicular, you could propagate a crack.
