Default What's the difference in these valve covers?

Ok I have a 94 Del Sol Vtec and my valve cover looks like the one on the right. My friend has a 96 Del Sol Vtec and his looks like the one on the left. I know mine is still the one that came with the car for a fact. Any idea what his came off of? Just a simple model change of the valve covers? This is a picture just like ours except ours are black. Thanks

The one on the right is a JDM valve cover because the VTEC is bigger than the DOHC. and the valve cover on the left is USDM becuase the DOHC is bigger than the vtec. I heard that somewhere before. Don't quote me on it, but I think that is right?

ok...but still. One is a JDM valve cover and one is a USDM valve cover. you could have a USDM motor....but the valve cover is from Japan.

Why would my valve cover be JDM? I bought the car from the dealer with this valve cover. His might, mine is not.

I don't ask the dipwads at the dealership anything here. They are totally clueless. Should have seen the look on their face when I told them I had a 91 Hatch with a D16Y8 swap in it

did you buy the car brand new? if not it is possible the previous owner slapped on a jdm valve cover. the dealer won't change it back to the stock black one

The one on the right (like the one off of your EG2) is the stock b16 valve cover. They have the bigger VTEC and smaller DOHC. The one on the right is a USDM GSR valve cover which have a big DOHC and a small VTEC.

Notice my USDM b16a3 valve cover

and my buddies USDM GSR valve cover

Oh wait I just realized his had the Honda symbol too. His is like the one of the left except it has the Honda emblem. I will snap pictures of ours tomorrow instead of this other picture.

OK, on US vehicles, I know for sure that 99-00 Civic Si had the VTEC larger. Everyone calls them JDM because I guess they add 20 hp or some crap. Typically, an OBD1 B16 has the small VTEC if it's US and OBD2's have large VTEC on USDM. All JDM have large VTEC.

A first gen B16A's valve cover has "DOHC" written in a larger font than "VTEC". (USDM&JDM)
A second gen B16A's valve cover has "VTEC" written in a larger font than "DOHC". (JDM)
Those cover as much as the B16 engines....

If I'm not mistaken, the one on the left (that is missing the Honda emblem and the one that has the DOHC bigger than VTEC,) is from the early gen b16's that came on the early 90's civics and integras.

The 2nd valve cover is definitely a 2nd gen B valve cover b/c it's identical to the one on my EM1, only red instead of black.
