HOLY CRAP HONDA TECH HELP ME OUT
Lately I've been away from the Honda scene as I just bought a Corvette. Unfortunately, I've already gotten used to the 12 second DD setup and now I'm ready to go much faster than 12s. I was ready to mod the hell out of my Vette and come up with some nice numbers, perhaps 10 second worthy, BUT once I looked into the price of things and realized how much my car would depreciate after being modded', I've kinda turned away from the idea of moddin' my Vette....
There's the scoop,
At this point HT can help. Just on the other side of my garage is a perfectly fine 2000 Civic Coupe SHELL. I have a B16 block and GSR head. Should I build the current setup and use a large turbo and boost away? Or am I wasting my time trying to make my Honda faster than life?
I could write up this worthless list of items that I think I should buy for the setup, but I'd rather one of you tell me what tuner to go to for a high hp street setup.
Another thing that could help...if you were going make a high hp street car..say 450+whp, which turbo would you use on the B16. GT35r? t3 57trim? I dunno which I should get...I hear they all make Honda owners happier than two peas in a pot. I just wanna go fast as hell.

well knowing what it takes to get a LSX (LS1/LS2) into the 10's versus getting a honda into the 10's you will spend alot more getting the honda there. you can easily spend 10k to get a honda there and i could get a LS1 into the 10's with probably under 3k
get a big cam, little headwork, longtubes, tuning and a 150 shot and you should be right in that range. the vette should be around 450 to the ground at that point which should be low 11's high 10's

well here you go.... this is what i would do....
1.send your b16 to golend eagle and have it sleeved....84mm bore
2. get a ls crank(this will make the car damn near a 2 liter)
3. order eagle b16 rods
4. you will need pistons(custom)
5. have your head reworked with valve springs retainers...(stock valves are fine)
6. get a intake manifold
7. get all your turbo parts from the sponsors on this forum... I personally recommend mike at synapse motorsports... a real nice guy
8. i would run a 30r on this set up....
this set up will be a torque monster and will make the horsepower you want with almot the same torque or close to it...

see, i think 450whp is a very tricky number for different reasons.
If u really want 450whp, its at the limits of pump gas, and if u want to stay on pump, then i would say a 30r, but if 450 is just a number, and u wanna upgrade, the 30r would be a restriction therefor i would get the 35r.
so u really have to ask urself if u want to stay on pump or not, and be less concened with ur 450 mark.

yeah i got it thanks. but how much is the vette gonna depreciate having a cam and tune versus the amount spent to do a full engine build and BB turbo ???? could be cheaper but you suggested a BB turbo that is very expensive and unneccessary
that **** is gonna cost alot more than the vette will depreciate.
your talkin roughly 12-15 thousand to do a full out sleeved build and setting a honda up to do 10's.
to get a late model vette into the 10's cost probably less than 1/3rd of that.
and i doubt the vette will lose 10 thousand in resale for having mods.
anyway i went off on what "I" would do. and i know thats not what was asked but just putting the thought out there

Trade the Civic for a good-condition Fox-body Moostang, add drag radials with NOS or a turbo+megasquirt, and you can get a 10sec car for the price of a 12sec civic.
The civic will require either a shitload of HP, or good HP with a killer suspension/driving/weight reduction. I know a guy with a B20/Vtec (stock sleeves) that's gone as low as 11.2 or so - all-motor and gutted EG. He's making ~270whp, but can drive that car like a pro.

wanted to do fox myself with a LS1 and a 150. cheap and FAST! oh and you can hook outta the hole too lol.
i just dont see someone goin from a "12 second vette" which would make me think its very likely a Z06 to a honda or a fox

Your skipped over one thing that is actually gong to GET him into the tens, N20. Id say that lowers the value by about 1/4 but thats just me.
I have seen 300HP car's go 10's. Stock sleeves too...

Yes, I realize I could spray the house down and run 10's in my Vette. Unfortunately, I'm not that cheap, I want the power continuously, and if I can help a bit more reliably. There's a lot more to it though.
For future reference and info, the Vette is an LS1 powered C5. Does 12.8's bone stock w/ drag radials. I realize I could knock that down to to low 12's with just bolt-on's, but you gotta understand that and upgraded intake, (not the manifold or TB) headers, x-pipes, and muffler system will cost as much as if not more than a decent turbo kit for a Honda. Granted, those bolt-ons will add 40rwhp, but what's 40 when you already have 310whp, and for what?? $2000-2500 dollars? Something else I could throw in..the LS1 in stock form loses integrity at around 500-550rwhp, (just like the B-series behaves after being pushed over 300whp or so) which...if I could hook up, would be enough to run my desired times and what not... at least for a little while.
But let me explain a little more in depth here why I'm skeptical about moddin' the Vette ASIDE from the fact that it hurts the value of my car. Understand that I want to go fast, and once I go fast..I will want to go faster. Now..keep in mind that 700whp in a Vette might be the equivalent of 550whp in the Civic, simply because the Civic is lighter and has much more aggressive gears. Now I could build the Civic up, have a really, really, nice setup for the street, and still have plenty of leg room to go from 400whp to 500whp, and 500whp to 600whp and etc. However, if I just supercharge the C5, instantly reach my immediate goals, all for about $7.5k, I can have 500rwhp, and do high 10's at the very best on street trim. Then...what happens when I want to upgrade...HELL NO I ain't touching that block! I'm lookin' at $3k here and $5k there and oh wait..the rear end and upgraded tires..probably another $5k right there. Not to mention the $1000-1500 tunes and a shitload of tickets. It's known as Corvette Tax . The average 700+rwhp C5 has about $30-35K put into it. For half that price, I could have a 600whp Civic, gutted, nice suspension, and comparable performance (at least to about 150mph). On top of that, I could eventually sell my C5 for a premium and go buy a new Z06 all because I was a good little boy and didn't mod. I never said anything about money issues concerning the Honda, but I would have money issues w/ the Vette. Because I would put more and more money in and less and less money would come out. Not that way with Honda's..you at least get back some of your after market because that's the nature of imports.
I've done my homework...I just need some input from other brothers from another mother (Honda drivers). I appreciate the ones who have posted already! You guys are quick!

I know goin' from a C5 to a Honda is weird...but I want the C5 just to be a show stopper, cruisin' on Sunday's...not really a toy to break every other month. Besides, I'm still partial to Honda's.
All Motor is always an option...but if that's the case then I have to leave you guys...

No way in hell I'm putting a 150 shot on top of all those mods on my stock block.

OOPS I meant 4-450 on motor then with the 150 be 550-600.
but yeah i hated the bottle when i was running it becuase of hte inconsistency and filling it. but damn LS1's on spray run hard.

My opinion...I'd do mild bolt-ons and keep the Corvette clean and reliable. Build the Civic, and if you blow it up, you still have the Vette.
i say mod the civic and keep the vette how it is if you dont mind it gut the civic if you dont wanna spend the money and do a all out build like a sleeved motor then throw some pistons and rods in there or boost the **** outta the stock motor there are people all on this site running 11 and 10s from stock gsr motors making 350 and up traction bars slicks and all those goodies are a must tho
Another idea would be to replace your current vette with a salvaged title vette. That takes a huge chunk off the price - enough to make up for the depreciation for the mods & lower resale, as well as pay for some parts. It would take longer to sell (smaller target group), but the target group would care more for performance than depreciation.
BTW here's something I like to toss out whenever someone mentions their vette has amazing track times. This article was done ~2003, but shows the whp is above stock, but most importantly the difference between a good driver and a pro. Not that I'm calling you a lier, it just points out that power isn't the 'I Win' button.

Yeah, I understand completely what your getting at about track times. However, I had sticky's and a hot summer day to make launching rather easy. My trap speeds aren't that high though. 113 is pretty norm for a Z06, but I've seen some as high as 115 and 116mph in stock form. (C5 models) I've also seen a mid 9's sec 700whp 06' z06 run a 13.3 w/ street tires on a cool summer night (around 65 deg.)It's all about the weather, tires, and driver skill.
To answer one posters question..yes, I plan on keeping both the Corvette and the Honda.

oh if keeping both then yeah gut the living hell outta the civic trash every single non essential thing on it and boost the hell outta of then go to da club in the vette and shoplift some pooty!
if i had a choice of only one to keep/mod id light mod the vette but since you can have both i think your making the right choice to go ***** out on the civic.
