my boss wants to put an f23 into a customer's 97 lx auto with an f22b2, which is blown.

i'm trying to find out if this motor will bolt in and run off of the lx auto ecu. i don't have a 98-02 accord at the shop to look at and compare, so some feedback would be great if you know anything about this swap or similar swaps.

F-series to F-series should be about as simple as it gets. I would not try to run the 97 LX ecu, especially if you pick up an F23a1 or F23a4 because they are both vtec motors. If you can get the harness and ECU for the F23, I'd imagine you'll be set, transmission will bolt right up.

missing the point. first off none of the posts in the 35 results discuss this topic. i looked.

second, it wouldn't be prudent to put the f23 ecu in the car because it would have to be completely rewired. the whole point is to save a customer some money because, believe it or not the f32a1 from a 98-02 accord is cheaper low mileage/used than a f22b2 out of an lx.

i actually was able to get a hold of a 2001 accord and compared the motors. it looks like i'll be able to put the f23 block and head in the car and reuse the manifolds, trans, wire harness/ecu, and distributor from the f22b2. btw- i discovered that the f22b1 (ex VTEC) from the 5th gen has a different IM gasket.

i think i have found enough to try this. i'll let you know if it runs...

 

The F23 will likely be an OBD2B motor, while the 96+ F22Bx is an OBD2A. What you need is a 96-97 EX ecu, otherwise the F23 will never engage VTEC. Obviously you'll have to add the wiring for VTEC. The ECU pinouts should be pretty easy to find with a search, all OBD2a pinouts are the same.


I'd run the F23 IM (larger plenum for more powa!) It should have all of the same sensors, as long as it's auto>auto, or manual>manual.

F23 w/ F22b1 computer should work.

 

i guess to answer your question.

You could run the F23 with the F22B2 ECU and make it work...you'd just leave the VTEC plugs empty (sad) and make sure all the plugs on the harness have a place to plug into.

The non-VTEC lobes on the F23 are probably smaller than the lobes on the F22b2, so it might have less power, but it should run ok.

 

is the iacv connector on an auto f23 a three pin like the manual f23 or like the auto f22b2?

 

i just swaped f23 in to 96 accord ex and it bolts no problem

I don't know...look at a customers car. Or tommy's motor shelf.

EX is going to be different than an LX/DX

 

i put a 2000 ex motor in my 97 lx i ran the ex wire harnes and ecu but wen i turn the key it doesn’t crank ? Am i missing something or something I didn’t do ??
plz help

 

were you able to reuse the same ecu or did you swap it?
