Well first off you need a new thermostat.
Maybe it's just the way you took the picture but it doesn't look like it's in right, the "nub" on the gasket has to go into that little "notch" on top - though if it was...just buy a new one, they're like 12 bucks. Or since it's warm u can just remove it completely for now.
As for the blown ECU - it has to be a surge of some sort.
Did you throw any CEL's? Especially 20 - that would help.
You said it started - so obviously the ECU is not completely blown. Go to PGFMI.org and find out what that capacitor does. That'll relate it to which system on your car had the surge. If it cooked ur entire ECU the car wouldn't have started, though I'm surprised it popped the ECU w/o throwing a code 20 AT LEAST.
EDIT:
Oh, nvm, didn't read that first line:
So can u check the codes now? If you already roasted one part, I wouldn't be afraid to go after the others...
You may have jumped the wrong wire, which one did you jump and what did u jump it with? Was it touching anything or just hanging out in the open (the plug end).

I’m new but the same cap blew up in my car but it fried a quarter size spot on the ecu. It has to deal with fuel and other things you can check it out go listen for your fuel pump to come on when you turn the key. My car was running and it just died because of that. Some one that knows how to work a soldiering iron can fix it my buddy did mine it looks like crap but that was over a month ago.
