Default Yet another EF Project...

Well, I finally picked up my first real project car; A 1988 CRX Si...

Body shots:

Interior:

Engine Bay:

The Story:

The car use to belong to a friend of mine. Previously, when he owned it, it had a B18a in it along with a y1 tranny, some bolt ons (clutch/flywheel/pulley/intake/unbolted exhaust), a ZEX wet 75 shot, and a ****-ton of weight reduction. Fastest pass recorded was a 13.7 I believe at a little over 100 on slicks. He injured his knee about a year back playing in an amature baseball league, and since he's going in for surgery, he needs to pick up something with an autotragic tranny (It's his left knee). So we struck a deal, he keeps the B18 all the bolt ons, nitrous, blah blah blah, so he can swap it into something else when he heals, and I get the shell, 2 D16a6's, and all parts required to swap the D back in for $700. Which brings me to the next section...

The Plan:

Ok, so here's the deal. Ever since I was a young Honda head I've always wanted to build a bad *** N/A Non-Vtec sohc D-series. So, that's what I'm going to do. How exactly am I going to do that? Well... I'm not quite sure yet What I do know, however, is that I'm going to take the better running of the 2 D series I received and just do basic maintenance items, and some bolt-ons to keep me busy whilst I'm working on fully building the other D. I also plan on completely redoing the suspension during this time, not only throwing parts at it, but removing every single stock component, sand blasting them until they are spotless, re-undercoating them and re-bushing them all. And of course, I will attempt the infamous DIY paint job to top it all off During all of this I will keep an up to date price/parts list so people looking to do something like this will be able to get a general idea on how much they're looking at. So that's it for now. I'll be updating at least once a week...wish me luck, I'm gunna need it

Price/Parts List:

1988 Crx Si $500.00
2nd D16a6 $200.00
Misc. Stainless Bolts $7.11
Carb Cleaner/ Paint $11.71
Engine stand/ Bolts $45.00
Misc. Paint/Degreaser $7.00

T3h PiX0rs:

Borrowed my parents van to go pick the double Ds up

Mmmmm... oxidization...

After taking them out and putting them on the trailer to move them. (It's kinda fun working with engines you can just pick up and move )

Bits and pieces...

Tucked in for a good nights sleep...

I'll have more soon... I gusta make me a sammich

i just dont think its possible. good luck tho!
a note about the $50 paint job. if u want to spray boat paint or rustolem, save yourself time and money and go buy an economy single stage. its CHEAPER then buying interlux brightside paint.

but if you are forced to roll the paint, use interlux brightside.

I actually have a compressor and a spray gun. Its not gunna be rattle can or roller but it will be DIY

Just to clarify I don't mean like super awesome push your eyes into your head and make you **** them out a week later bad ***. I mean like a stock b16 generally puts 135 to the wheels and a stock b18c1 is usually around 145 or so. The fact that the D engine+tranny combo itself is at least 100 lbs. lighter (can't remember the exact numbers...) gives it a little weight advantage compared to similar swapped set-ups. If built properly it should be no trouble at all hitting 140-150 at the wheels. Basically I just want to be fast enough to beat up on kids who think their 99-00 Si's/ Teggy GSRs/ STOCK B series swapped EGs, EKs etc./and other "Gods gift to Racing" cars are the **** with their V-TACH stickers and such and then rub it in even worse when I tell them its a single cam non-vtec without boost.

"...re-undercoating them and re-bushing them all..." try using POR-15 on the suspension bits (get the kit) and get a truck bed liner like grizzly grip, rhino liner or line-x for the under body. I did them both and couldn't be happier with the results. very easy to clean and very low maintenence, just spray down with a high pressure hose to clean up.
