Subwoofer help
Ok, I need more info on your situation, but I'll just say this for now. amp hook up should be, +12V( main power wire that should be fused no more than 1 foot from the battery. Usual red wire. Size or guage of wire depends on current that will be running through it.) remote or signal( this wire will usually be the blue wire on the back of your head unit that will need to be run to your amp, it gives your amp a signal voltage to let it know it needs to be on. This can be hooked to a 12vdc power source that is only on when the ignition is on, I do not recommend this. Your amp will be on when ever the car is on and it would also need to have a fuse in line.) and last there is the -12v or ground (this is the ground wire. Ussually black. This should be no longer than 1 foot long to optimize performance of the amp. The entire chasis of your car is a ground "metal body and frame" Simply run a wire from the -12v teminal on your amp to the chasis of your car. Remember, before routing cables, the power cable needs to be ran on the opposite side of your car as the speaker wires and rca cables.
Remember, before hooking all of these wire up to remove the fuse from your main power wire (+12v). After everything has been connected and you are sure it is correct, insert the fuse. This is the basic set up for an amp and also the most common. If anything about your amp differs from this, add more info to this forum before attempting to install. Also I can help you with setting up you amp with your sub if you need it. I am an Electrical Engineer and Car audio is one of my hobbies. Also if you give me the make and model of your amp, I can find all the info and advise you from there on.
