Default Front brake rotor and pads recommendations?

hey guys, newbie here - 2002 Civic EX 2Dr.
i need new front brakes and i'm looking for recommendations. i live in pittsburgh, pa and drive about 80 miles/day roundtrip for work. my drive is 1/3 city (stop and go, mostly hilly) and 2/3 highway. i drive pretty fast and i'm kind of hard on brakes sometimes. i want pads and rotors that work well and have low dust (don;t we all?)

i'm leaning towards the EBC ultimaxx rotors and pads. i like the EBC greenstuff pads because i'm familiar with them from their motorcycle pads, but it looks like you're supposed to use the ultimaxx pads with the ultimax rotors. i like these rotors because they only have small slots on them and they are coated black.

i also saw the plain brembo discs in the forum marketplace for a really good price.

recommendations?

a few people on here like hawks, i like aem and axiis. there are usually 3 stages you can get. you can use any pad on any rotor it will just vary in performance and how long it lasts.

edit: if you can use the search engine you'll get more useful data there.

Yep, oddmut is right. A lot of 01-05 drivers like Brembo blanks and Hawk pads for the combination of a decent price and good stopping power. That combo seems to be the one most regularly mentioned on here.

Plus it's actually quite rewarding to find the info you've been looking for when you do locate it.

Play around with the Search function settings to see what effect choosing different options has on your search.

Yep. Always happens. Chances are fairly high that he won't come back and look either, a lot of noobs post once about something and don't come back for some reason. It kinda makes you think twice about bothering to help people sometimes.

So you want rid of your current Civic? What kind of 95 Civic? (bodystyle/engine etc...?)

EDIT: EVO's are better...

Maybe so, but Mitsubishi have won rallies too if not as many and Subaru pour more money into their rally programmes. But how often do you find yourself blasting through a dirt tracked forest stage on your way to work?

They are both good cars, don't get me wrong, but have you ever ridden in or driven either car? Or read any reviews of both cars to compare? It's pretty much accepted that the EVO is the sharper, more responsive of the two cars. The Impreza is more subtle, has a softer handling gait and lacks the last few crisp percentage points. The EVO has better steering too. Mitsubishi have been making this kind of car for longer, the EVO being preceded by nutball Galants (which a lot of the first EVO was based on, and it used a Galant engine too).

I'm not saying you know nothing about either car, becasue you may know your stuff, but spend sometime reading reviews of both models through the generations (the first Impreza Classic Turbo through 22B, RB5, WR1 etc and EVO I through V and VI, Makkinen Edition right up to EVO VIII MR FQ400).

EDIT: I guess "better" depends on what you expect or want of the car. The EVO is DEFINITELY the more hardcore, focused and less compromising of the two, but some people prefer the Impreza for that very reason; there is a bit more user-friendliness (real word?) to it and it's easier to just get in and go.

Although the EVO can pretty much make anyone look like a driving God. I know which i'd choose - by a mile - but that's me personally.

lol i love this. that's funny. let me check... never... close enough tho! lol.

I've been doing a lot of reading on subies and some on evos. i guess what turned me away the most, which was a biased way to look at it, was that my father despises mitsubishi because the safety features on it is bad and the chasi.

anyways what's your ups and downs for both cars?

to your edit: i thought it was vice versa man. there is also rumor that there will be a hatchback sti.

thanks for the recommendations (from those of you who made them). geez, you guys are harsh! hahaha

my internet proxy at work only opens up from 11am - 1pm for me to surf non-work-related sites... i posted and then go blocked and couldn't check back until i got home (now).

trust me, i always search first, but for some reason, the search function hasn't worked for me since i registered on the site??? i got tired of skimming back thru pages of old posts and decided to post a thread asking for recommendations... this is ok isn't it?

i just tried the search here at home and it worked... hmmm, maybe something with my web proxy at work? not many threads on recomendations for pads/discs though.

anyway, here's a link to those EBC rotors i was talking about:
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/rotorinfo.html
I thought that these would look good, but not eat through pads like a drilled/slotted rotor would?

the price of those brembo blanks is tough to beat though. i'll have to check to see if that vendor still offers them at that price. maybe brembo blanks and EBC greenstuff pads???

Im installing Brembo blanks with Dezod pads this weekend. I'll let you know how that goes. The dezod pads are supposed to have better inital bite, be quieter, and have less dust than the hawks.

There was work done to the website over the weekend, the search had been down since tue./wed.

My hawks bite real well and have never had any sound whatsoever, the only flaw would be the amount of dust but usual only see any increase over very long trips... so I can't really complain it's not enough to notice if you wash your car everyonce in awhile (and I'll take the little bit of extra dust for the very noticeable increase in stopping power )

To be honest with you mate, you're better off reading up some more on them and having a go in both. I've only ever driven 2 Imprezas (although one of those i have been driven in a good few more times), one being a MK1 UK WRX and the other a bug-eyed STi, which i have only ridden in 3 times.
A friend of a friend of mine has an EVO VII 320 (iirc) which he wont let me drive, but i have been out in it with him. The differences are really just what i have already said, the Impreza is a little softer and friendlier (although still devastatingly quick), the EVO feels raw, more lithe and alive, almost on its tip toes.
However, my personal ups and downs for both would be just that, my ups and downs. You probably have totally different criteria for what you want from the car.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by oddmut &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> there is also rumor that there will be a hatchback sti. </TD></TR></TABLE>

No rumour, it's true. There'll be a hatch and a saloon. And have you seen the hatch? Talk about a god damn ugly POS. Subaru have totally dropped the batton with the MK3 in my opinion; it's bland looking, has no distinctive "face" and looks out of proportion and ungainly. It looks like a Kia or something.
But have you seen the new Mitsubishi Evolution (they've dropped the Roman numerals for the new model line)? That is one menacing looking beast, a polar opposite to the Impreza and bang-on (again, my opinion).

Impreza hatch:

To be brutally honest, the new Lancer design is ugly to me. The front grille looks like an attempt to copy a new VW.

thanks for the info EM2. definately loved it. if that's how the subie is now going to look. i can tell you one thing. expletive IT. but the evo on the other is nice but it's starting look like a mazda 3/6 with the nose punched into the face. I honestly prefer the older versions. why are cars getting shittier every year? we all need to slap them hard in the face.

Iunno man, my father says mitsubishi is not a good quality car. but the interior is more upgraded than the subie. i'd have to really go to the dealer and take a feel and look. and read up a lot.

toyo: what you think of the subie? or ?
