I have a 99 Gsr body, and I am debating whether or not to swap in a 97 spec usdm b18c5 type r motor w/ lsd. It has around 90k miles, and with performance headers, new timing belt etc.. for 3500 installed. Should I keep looking or jump on this? Also what kind of power do you think I could expect?? I just want to make the right decision here. Thanks guys!

That's a decent deal for $3,500, I'd do it.</TD></TR></TABLE>
If he has no engine currently its great deal.

It's a Honda. I have a friend with 130,000+ on his '97 Type-R, and it doesn't consume ANY oil, and runs great. I only pulled a car length or so him when I had 85,000 miles with some nice bolt ons.
Hondas run great, as long as they're maintained. Worst comes to worst, replace the rings and valveseals.

Pardon my ignorance, but when you say papers be more specific? I personally know the guy doing the swap he has done swaps for me in the past, and for friends of mine. So what should I be asking him then? Thanks

I'm asking is there any way you can prove where it came from and how it's legit...
anybody offering a sweet deal on a USDM ITR motor rasies redflags in my book.... Unless you personally know what car it came out of.

I know the guy personally, he told me that it was from a friends type r that he recently ran into some guard rails after hydroplaning in the rain. The body was totaled, he bought the car cheap and is parting everything out. The odometer read around 90k something miles. I guess I could ask him for the Vin # and run a carfax to make sure, but is there anyway to match the vin with that specific motor?
Thanks
Thanks
Both on the transmission, AND on the engine, in front of the oil pan. It SHOULD have two green VIN tags, in both locations. If it doesn't, look into it.
If it turns out to be stolen, do the right thing and report it.

Yea im gonna have him email me pics of the motor tomorrow. The vin on the engine is the same thats on the car right? Thanks for the input, im assuming you mean look below...

Thats from my old car that got stolen 3 weeks ago, so be assured if this one is I most definitely would report it.

For future reference, never post your VIN from your car on the internet... That's all a theif needs to get a key cut for YOUR CAR. And casually walk up to it, and drive off.
Just a heads up.
And yes, that VIN. Also, there is another one in front of the oil pan, on the engine. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number, so yes, it's the same all over the car.

LOL you must not have read that my last response, that motor and the car was STOLEN 4 weeks ago, so I could give a ****. I appreciate the advice, but im not that dumb. Yes I know what vin stands for, I just wasn't sure if the # on the motor differed since it's an engine and not the car itself. Thanks for clarifying though

Yea unfortunately it is from my stolen gsr, and no the post isn't a joke I have pics of myself with my old car, the itr motor isn't even in my possession yet. Read the whole thread first before commenting =p Or check out the recent post of the guy who had his Type R stolen in George a few threads down, I posted other pics there as well.

why does it matter? anybody can just walk up to the car and write down the vin so why does it matter if its online or not?
i hate when ppl are overprotected..
i can understand covering the plates but still some ppl dont care.

No one can walk up and write down the VIN from my caR, or any other Type-R in this town. Because we're SMART ENOUGH to cover our VINs from under the dashboard. I never pop my hood for anyone, I never leave my door open in crowded public places, and I still have my caR in this town of theives... Coincidence? Or maybe because I've taken the proper steps to protect my car, is the reason it's still sitting in my locked/secured garage?
And there's a reason we're over protective, because theives want our ******* cars, look at all the "My Type-R was stolen" threads that have popped up in the past 2 weeks. Don't hate anyone for being overprotective, it's because we don't want to see our hard earned cars end up as a bare shell in some muddy salvage yard with some redneck named "Jonjo" telling us "At least it was just an Integra".
And seeming as he JUST had his GSR stolen, I figure I'd offer him that advice, in case he didn't know how easy it was for anyone to get a key cut with the proper VIN number, and someone on the "inside" of a dealership.
So that's why it matters.
