in simple terms,

low compression pistons have a "dished" top.

high compression pistons are "domed" on top

the dome of the piston is what makes it high or low compression.
the higher the dome the higher the compression is, because it closes the room, for that of the air/fuel to burn. and vice versa

dome doesn't mean it's high compression.

I can take a motor, remove the dished pistons and installed dome one and DROP the compression........due to the pin location and over all design.

Great.....confuse him/her whoever even more... Search like said. Pin location does make a difference but High compression and low compression is related to the volume within the combustion chamber. Dome pistions in most cases reduces that space therefore increasing compression ratio and the reverse for dish pistons. But continue to search and research.

look into diesel pistons.......dished, no dome, 17:1 compression
