Urgent help with differential bearing not seated
BLah ok, i just got the tranny hooked up lastnight after doing the ISB. Went to put in the drivers side axle. When its in all the way theres about a half inch gap. So i guess i didnt get the differential pressed in all the way. Do i have to drop the tranny again or can i hammer it in from the passenger side?
If the diff is not seated properly due to an incorrectly installed bearing, you'll have to (well, it's strongly recommended) pull it out and it do it right. Hammering bearings on haphazardly could lead to improper seating and damage.
If you're just talking about its positioning in the case, it should just slide out and in easily once you remove the shift fork bolt, you'd know before you reassembled it if the diff was out of place.
Perhaps it's an issue with the axle you're trying to re-install. Sometimes they're a real PITA to get back in.

He said that it's 1/2 inch that the axle wouldn't go in!
If the transmission cases are bolted together with no gap, the bearings on the differential have to be close.
My bet is that it's something with the axle or maybe the splines in the differential.
I have to "tap" in my axle on the passenger side (GSR motor, YS1 transmission) with a hammer and it really bugs me, but it is what it is.

My thoughts exactly, it's gotta be something with the axle.

k update, i forgot to mention i had to put in a new axle seal on that side. Im thinking when i put it in i pressed it in to far which gave me the gap. So i just put in back in with it flush. Hopefully that was the prob, now time to put fluid in and see if it leaks
Trending Topics
k its leaking pretty bad, the casing is the only part u can see of the differential bearing when the seal is out. that casing is tight against the lip. I dunno why its leaking tranny fluid still. Unless im not putting that axle seal in right. right now i have it flush with the transmission
You may have the wrong axle seal (i.e too big), I know Honda offers two different sizes for the passenger's side.
You may also try driving it in further with a driver tool, socket or piece of wood. The seals should have compressible "jelly" inside that helps it seal to the case, you need to get a very good seal to prevent leaks.

91205-PL3-A01 is the seal you need......
some list the PL3-B01 which is for the wagon tranny
Diff bearing is seated properly.......
edge of seal flush with the tranny........
all been covered before.......

this is and ago old problem in Honda Parts Database, has been know about for 10 years.
I believe the route error is only in the 90-91 CRX Si, easiest just to order 92-95 axle seals.......
or memorize the part numbers......

It's the same for the 90-91 Civic Si as well. I ordered both to be sure when I rebuilt my trans. But 5th gen ones are the correct sizes as well, huh? The more you know....
