Just bought a new CRX
I just bought a new CRX, with a B16 Motorswap in it

yea im sure a few of u have seen this car..its been 4sale here a few times i guess..?
But i had a question about custom Fiberglass fabrication back there
I wanna do a set up, that will hold the 2 subs, and amp, and what not,
but i dont have a clue about how people do it ?
if you kno what im talking about think you can give me some tips and what not, and tell me how to do it
2nd, since im'a do that in the back, and there will be the electrical stuff back there,
there is that Common CRX hatch leak, (ive had it in a few crex's ive owned)
was just curious how do u actually get rid of it? just buy all new weather striping/seals? or what?
[b] Something like that..except with Fiberglass, ...lol and not as tacky, and only 2 subs, and 1 amp..
it'd be painted white to match the car too..
Ive tried searching this stuff, but when i go to search type stuff in, it wont work for me?
that or i could likely just be an idiot haha
but the jist of it
Just bought my B16 CRX, after a looong break from the honda world.. driving around a jeep.. lol

as for the fiberglass box ,you need ....some MDF polyester fabric (walmart sells it by the square foot) a staple gun ,glue gun ,fiberglass resin ,fiberglass filler (short haired kind) plastic filler or glazing puddy ,sander of some sort (random orbital works great) bondo speaders, poster board or card board for templates, paint brush
make a template of the base of the box and tranfer the template to the mdf
then take the mdf and cut out a base
then take the mdf and cut out rings for the size of subs you want to go with
then cut strips of the mdf for the legs of the rings (at whatever length and angle you like )
glue them to the rings and to the base of the box ,now you have a skeleton of the box
take your fabric and start stapleing it to the base and move from one side to the other, pulling it tight
once your happy with the look and everything is tight and all nice...nice grab the fiberglass resin and mix up a batch of it and soak the fabric (do not put resin where the sub hole is 'just around the ring) ,let it dry and do a few more coats untill satisfied witht he hardness ,now you cantake a razor blade and cut the hole for the subs, where you didnt soak with resin.now you can use fiberglass cloth or mate or just go right to the body filler, thats up to you ,i didnt use cloth or mate for mine ,but have a **** load of resin on my fabric lol
so on to body filler mix up a batch of it ,if you havent used it before ,dont put as much hardener as it says ,you have a bit more time to work with it before it starts to harden
apply it to the box and let it dry ,then sand it ,it might take a few coats untill its perfect .once your happy with the look ,drill a hole for the wires and send them through and use a bit of silicone ,i dont like useing the connecters for he speaker wire ,they leak ,but its up to you what you use lol
im working on a single 12 inch box right now and have a about $200 in supplys and few hours labour into it ,thats not includeing tools lol its not cheap and im still not done

To add to what Phatboy said...do a Google Search for Car Audio Magazine. They usually have excellent write ups on custom audio enclosures!!!
Good Luck!!!

The gap EWWWW but looks clean other than that. Nice job!
I think its most likely the water nossle squarter (above the hatch) that leaks. Thats if it comes down near the hatch struts... I'm going to get rid of it.. Starting to chap my ***, about water in the car...

sweet thx
yea ive worked with bondo/Fiberglass/shortstrand/resin all that stuff before, i took a Collision Repair Class, to get into Automotive Detailing,
i like paintin cars, which ill be repainting this one, cause on the drivers side is somehwat noticable scratch/dent
and i attempted to do a custom fiberglass box awhile back, didnt turn out to good, ur instructions you say, sound pretty good and easy to follow i appreciate it
and the body line gap is (if its the one i see that u see) the body kit on that side isnt bolted up at tight as it should be, which i fixed after the pic

no problem
its pretty simple once you get the angle of the subs and skeleton worked out .
are you going for loud hard bass or looks ? if you have a single box and a sub play with in the hatch ,see what angle it thumps best at ,staright up sounds like crap ,corner loading makes the bass hit hard and vibrate the crap out the car lol ,right in the center pointed toward the hatch window is the best i think
clean, soild thump .or even a box that is right behind the seats with a sub in each side and a amp in the center ,with the subs pointed angled to the window/corner of the car
good luck
and post lots of pics

well the rear hatch looks like ****, so i kinda just wanna Fiberglass the whole rear hatch, but i dont kno were i should go up to, like if i should go up to where the normal rear hatch parts go to , or if i should make it lower than that, and ive been running ideas of putting 2 subs in the back, and 2 tweeters in there, and then the amp in the middle, but kinda make it all slope in the middle? like a bowl? but the tweeters/subs would be in the slope, and the amp in the middle? if that all makes sence..
or putting the 2 subs behind hte seats, and then amp in the middle of them, and then fiberglassing the rest of the back hatch so its presentable and nice, and can put stuff back there and what not..
im just running through idea's more or less...
i wanna go for looks, with a nice thump hehe

i honestly cant complain with it, it shaked a little while driving, nothing major, easy fix for me,
and there is a dent on the fender, from the door, hitting it, im guessing the fender wasnt flush, when someone put it on, so im'a just pull the dent, and prolly repaint it, and if u read above, im'a fiberglass the whole rear hatch..and what not
