Default Car Seat PAIN - tips on replacing???

Honda Accord EX 2005 60K miles.

OK the pain is enough! After driving > 20 mins, I am in pain for the next hour in the hips and butt area. (I'm 5'10", 195 lbs, fairly normal proportions, no back problems, history, injuries, chiropractic visits ...nothing.)

But Honda has designed the 2005 Accord EX driver's seat so poorly... Something has to change. (And, yes, I've tried everything: Lumbar support, every angle you can imagine, pillows, cushions, repositioning my legs...everything). No problem with any other car, even my other Hondas.

So... I am thinking of replacing the seat with a third-party seat. Can anyone provide any tips or suggestions or experiences?

And yes, I know it has to be done super-well because of the Safety implications.

Thanks for any and all suggestions

-Andrew

The first problem I see is that your vehicle should have seat airbags. Look at the side of the seat closest to the door for the tag. With that I will tell you that the vehicle will never pass any sort of inspection anywhere with an SRS light on.

that doesnt mean it would mess up the SRS system... same as your steering wheel.. you can change your steering wheel without it coming on, at least mine didnt. do all 2005 models come with side airbags?

You are saying that you can completely remove an airbag without setting off the SRS system? Because I have never heard of a "third-party seat" with a side airbag.

All 05 Accords come with a side airbag in the seat. If he replaces that with an aftermarket unit which does not contain an airbag, YES, he will have SRS issues.

OK ... I get the picture.. thanks for the info.

It looks like seat replacement is not an option, after all.

So... I guess I'm stuck with pads and pillows for now (which don't seem to do the trick) and the pains I get for the next hour after leaving the car.

Or, perhaps I should sell the car... AWFUL.

Thanks for the important details on the seat irreplacability.

One other thing you MAY have as an option is an Accord's coupe seat if you have a sedan or a sedan seat if you have a coupe. As long as the seat you get has the side airbag. It's even possible that with a possible plug change a TSX or TL or some other Honda seat with side airbags might work. But wiring may need to be modified and you do not want to mess that up. Also, an OEM seat like that from Honda or Acura or even used with a side airbag is bound to be expensive.

Good luck though.

actually people remove there steering wheels with airbags and replace them with aftermarket ones without airbags. So im assuming you can take out the air bag.

But you WILL get an SRS light, that's just how it works.

Okay, go ahead and yank out every airbag you can think of. Good luck with that, I'm not going to argue on the internet, but I WILL SAY this guy can not change his seat without those issues. I'm done with this thread.

Definitely look into TL or TSX seats. They have the same mounting bolts on the floor. SRS and Power Seat and Seat Heater Connecters are all the same with the Accord.
