LSD TRANNY?
Noob question. I just bought a new transmission. it's suppose to be an S80 97 spec ITR tranny. wanted to know what to look for to tell if it's a LSD or not. can anyone help? i would search but the search isn't working keeps getting an error sign. Thanks!
Not sure if the 97's had this but when we bought a brand new ITR tranny from Acura it came stamped with LSD on it in some kind of ink or paint. Obviously a used one may be a different story as it could have worn off.
Im sure the 97 ITR Has LSD but not sure if my tranny came off the ITR or not. 94-97 spec have the same tranny code. 1-3 gears are b16 gears 4 and 5th are suppose to be GSR gears. at least from what the specs say.
Was just looking at this website and happened to see a similar S80 tranny. Check it out, same year as well and it says LSD. http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/whatsnew.php
Just scroll down to the 94-01 DC2 section. It's the last one on the list before the DC5 stuff.

Take the tranny off the motor, if it isn't already. Then, look where your two axles go in and it should be a hollow hole through. This will tell you that you have LSD; other than that it's not an LSD. This is the only for sure way to tell the difference.

If you want a 100% sure answer! Take a pic of where the axles go into the tranny, then post the pics up

thats the way to tell...
if its on the car, youre going to have to peel out, and see if both wheels make lines or just 1.
Thats the only way I know if it has one or not.
I think theres something like jacking it up and spinning a wheel, and the other one should spin too or something like that, but im not 100% sure about that.

get into ur car start it back it out rev it to oh lets say 6500 then sidestep the clutch and punch it if ya have only one track its an open diff(not lsd)2 lines = lsd
look though where the axles go if you can see cleary to the other side it has lsd if you see like a bar in the middle then you dont have lsd or what u can do is but both axle in the tranny and spin with the both spin in oppiste directions it has lsd if only 1 side spins no lsd
ur peeling out test is bullshit. i used to own a 90 civic hatch STD and i was in reverese doing about 40 when i let it rip in 1st make TWO nice long tire marks. ur gonna tell me that was LSD. and if it was....MY MISTAKE lol
i didnt say anything bout going in reverse at 40 then put it in first n punch it now did i?
i have an open diff n when im at the track it spins both tires for about a foot then it single tracks the only reason ur tires were both spinning is cause the spider gears were locked because you were in reverse then immediatly in first
