i got 97 accord. i was coming home from work , crank up the car and speedometer dont work! and few min later my check engine light came on and my car idles very very low and sounds like fixing to cut off so i drove it home keeping my motor rev up when i was stop.... any ideas wat might be?

 

Get the code for the check engine light (CEL).

 

how about teh speedometer? is it easy fix or should i jsut take it to the honda dealer

 

If the CEL gives you the code for the speed sensor, then yes, it's an easy fix. If it gives you a code for something else, then we're gonna need to know that to suggest a solution.

Hi, guys, I drove my honda accord (1997) over 200 miles under this hot afternoon. The odometer, speedometer, and cruise control stopped. Sometimes odometer and speedometer ran for several minutes before stopping at zero. I just read some posts here, but still don't know what I should do. Sensor should be replaced? Will this have impacts on car engine if I continue driving it?

I went to Autozone for free CEL before this happened, and it said I needed to replace an O2 Sensor. Not sure whether this was a factor.

well change out the o2 sensor and see if it would work and if your vvs sensor is bad it wont even move out of the 0. and when i drove around with the bad sensor my car started the idel very very low when im stop but it ddint hurt anything.

 

Bought this car from a small dealer a month ago (he claims a sr. owner). Just spent $300 on replacing the radiator and a condensing fan. It was a bad secondary heated O2 sensor (bank2). Could any of you guys let me know what impacts would this bring? E-check failure? Many thanks.

 

I read somewhere that this sort of speedo fail mode, accompanied by CEL light, can occur because a wire bundle rubbing on the intake manifold rubs through and shorts. Also can cause cruise control to fail and fuse to blow....

 

VSS = no cruise, cel, no speedo, no odometer
