Default bad ecu?

**at the time of this post, the search feature was unavailable**

so i have an 89 hatch with an obd0 b16, pr3 ecu . its been throwing code 23 since the get go (knock), but it ran fine. about a week ago i started it up and it went into limp mode right away. i checked the CEL and it stayed lit like a light bulb. i thought it might be the ecu so i unplugged it for about a half hour. plugged it back in and ran fine. then a couple days later, same problem. this time i just shut it off and started it back up and it was fine. i tryed another pr3 and got the same results

what could be the problem?
dizzy?
ecu?

what are the causes and effects of a bad ecu?

creak it open, look for leaking capacitors or anything that looks off.

If it is doing the same thing with another ecu then your ecu is not bad. Depending on what goes bad, the light on the ecu will not light up at all. Have you checked your knock sensor and the wire from your knock sensor to the ecu?

i havent checked the wire, but since i know **** about wiring i had a shop do that when i swapped it. i assume they double checked everything and they told me i had a bad sensor. but what does it mean when the CEL stays lit?

if the CEL is solid it's sometimes a bad ground in the system. Often times this is the battery. It can be a pain in the *** to diagnose.
