Default H22... need help wiring from OBD2 to OBD1 Distributor

Ok. I have a JDM H22 in my 99 prelude right now, but with all of the OBD2 components and sensors hooked up, keeping it OBD2 instead of swapping everything over to OBD1. Before i swapped the motor I had a misfire on cylinder 1. Found out the in had a cracked sleeve and some other stuff. But after the new motor, I still get an occasional misfire, and studder at lower rpms. So im thinking that i have a bad pickup in the distributor. Normally you can feel the magnetic resistance when you turn the rotor in it, but on mine it just free spins basically. Thats besides the point.

I know the crank angle sensor and tdc are ran off the oil pump on the OBD2, and from the distributor on the OBD1. Ive read where people are swapping over to OBD1 completely and having to relocate the wires from the tdc and crank sensor at the timing cover, all the way over to the distributor so the sensors in the distributor will be functioning. Does this HAVE to be done, or can the existing sensors ran off the oil pump still be used? Also if this HAS to be done, what is the easiest way to do it? Or any links would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance!

ttt...

Does anyone know?

Since im staying with the OBD2 ECU, can i leave the sensors plugged in at the oil pump, or do i HAVE to move the wires to the distributor and use the sensors from it?

you can definitely leave the sensors where they are at the oil pump, as long as they're plugged into the harness and the ecu is getting a good signal from them that is all you need.

you could try using the ICM and coil from the obd1 distributor, I would say to try and use that pickup too but you would not want to be soldering wires inside the dizzy, and the obd1 setup has two extra pickups that might not have mounting holes.

so how do you think i should wire it if i leave the sensors plugged in at the oil pump? What wires would i use from the OBD1 distributor? I know i need to use the RPM leads, and i would have to splice the power wire from the coil, so i can power the internal coil to the OBD1 distributor. Which other sensors would have to be used from the OBD1 Distributor?

I am using it now. the reason im swapping to the OBD1 is because the OBD2 distributor has a bad pickup we believe. When the distributor is off the car and you turn the rotor, normally you can feel the resistance from the magnetic pickups... well you cant even feel any resistance at all.

Before i swapped the motor i had a misfire on random cylinders. Got a new motor and swapped over my old OBD2 distributor to keep things simple. But im still having the issue with the misfire(mainly cylinder 1), but there is a P1399(random cylinder misfire) in pending. Ive replaced the coil, wires, cap, rotor, button, and plugs. So i think it has to be the distributor.

This is why i need to know the best way to wire the OBD1 distributor. Does that make more sense now?

mgags7 - do you still have the p72? if you do, pm me details on the hondata setup, like what options you have on it. Thanks

also, the OBD1 distributor can on the JDM H22 motor that is in the car now. we just swapped the external components over to the OBD1 motor so we could keep it OBD2

you're better off looking for a replacement obd2 distributor, though if you must use the obd1, you're going to have to mess with the wiring a good bit. you can match up the wires coming from the pickup in the obd2 dist and figure out where they need to be with the obd1

then you can pull the pins out of and change the connector from the big 8-pin obd1 to the 4-pin obd2.

the other connector with 2 wires is tach and power, that will be the same.

edit: another thing to worry about is that your jdm distributor is internal coil and that will be more wiring. you'll have to run the black/yellow wire from the old external coil plug to the black/yel that goes into the dist, you can simply pull the pin out of the connector and pop the new one in. the other two wires that run to the coil can be discarded.
