So i wasnt paying attention pulling out of a drive through fast food place and knocked my mirror off. The screws are still in the mirror, but the plastic piece that it screws to is broken, the piece thats on the door... is this changeable? or do i need to like get a new door? its a 99 civic coupe (ex) if sum1 can tell me what it is i need to go look for in a junkyard like how to pull it off id appreciate it. and what tools i need.
Thanks in advance. and if u can tell me what size socket i need to remove the knock sensor from a d16y8 that would be appreciated too. maybe if i can get this paypal thing figured out a reward?

The mirror is designed to break away during an impact. You should be able to just replace the mirror. You don't need a new door. Here is a link to see the parts.

Can you possibly take a picture of the mirror area, and post it?

I'll do it tomorrow after work. its a cellphone but quality is decent. Its not the mirror thats broken, theres 2 or 3 screws that hold the mirror to this plastic piece... and that plastic piece is broken, when i tried to lign up the mirror it would go, so i pushed on the plastic piece and it felt like maybe aluminum bending.
Also i'm lazy when it comes to looking stuff up, but if you could tell me the tools i need to remove the headlights (maybe small writeup? im a mechanic if i have the tools i can figure it out, gunna go to a pull&pay) and tell me what size socket fits the knock sensor, i'll paypal you say $25? Thanks for the help. I'll have tht pic up tomorrow.

I only want to help, and it is not my nature to accept anything in return. Spend the money on a good tool set, metric size sockets (six-point sockets are best to prevent rounding off bolts and nuts). For what you listed, a metric socket set, rachet, philips screwdriver, and possibly flathead screwdriver should do the work. Craftsmans are good quality, price, lifetime warranty. -- The right tools make any job easier, and less chance of rounding bolts head off, etc.
The mirror is held on with 3 studs and nuts, the studs may have gotten bent a little. You may just need to get the entire mirror unit (refer to the link in my previous post to see the parts). Hopefully, you can find it at the salvage yard. Also check that the electrical plug connectors tabs didn't get broken off.

You didn't mention headlights in your first post; but, here are instructions.

I'm not exactly sure on the socket size of the knock sensor on your car; but, I think it might be a 17 mm (deep socket).

ok. thanks. (i have some craftsman stuff, but being i work on heavy equipment i own mainly matco and snap-on)
So i have pics, i havent taken my inside apart yet. do i need to remove the door panel to get that piece out my tweeter mounts to? and that plastic piece thats broken does it come off the door with screws? i think that mirrors different?
Here are the pics..

I guess i'll just grab a duffle bag and throw in all my metric stuff. 1/4 and 3/8 drive ratchets, screw drivers... wrenches too i guess. i'll even take my bigger ones 19-30mm commons for that knock sensor... Thanks for all your help.
PS. you wouldn't happen to know if a disconnected knock sensor will act as if a knock were detected? and retard the timing and all that would you? i got a replacement engine but broke the plastic piece for the knock sensor when i was trying to remove it. And if it has retarded the time, will this explain the worse gas mileage? or should i be looking into cleaning the injectors?

Lol, I didn't know whether you had tools or not not, that's why I suggested Craftsman. Matco and Snap-On: FTW
Yeah, the plastic piece should come off with the bolts and nuts. Looks like the mirror shell and some internal parts are broken.
I don't know where the tweeters are mounted since I don't own a Civic, so I can't tell if the door panel needs removal, without seeing their location.
The mirror in the instructions are slightly different; but the procedures shouldn't be much different. Your mirror matches the following picture, from the Slhonda.com link I previously posted. It looks like that piece (red arrow) is broken, along with the shell (at least that's what I can see from your posted pictures). Seems like several nuts (blue arrow) hold the unit in place.

In regards to the knock sensor, if the sensor was disconnected, it wouldn't be able to send a voltage signal to the ECU. So the ECU can't retard the timing, in that sense. The bad gas mileage may be due to something else like car needing tune-up, lazy O2 sensor, etc.

i have a CEL for the knock sensor.. so i was just wondering. and for the mirror piece i looked at that part breadkdowns again, and it seems that cover it shows to pry away, thats where my tweeters mount to. i recall them needing the door panel removed (going to be looking for one anyway). and i think its got 3 nuts that hold that plastic piece the broke to the door, maybe, then that plastic piece screws into the mirror (the screw u see in the 2nd pic) and for the bumber... pain in the *** to take off? should i bring a box to lay on(creeper)? haha.
And i think im just gunna ignore that very helpful post by sageuvagony.
Thanks for the input tech8.
I'm guesssing your turning wrenches for autos. haha. in my world theres one bolt, sometimes with a welded nut or tapped hole for the lights, like 4 bolts or so for the bumper, and a motivator (sledge hammer) fixes most fitment issues.
