snapped a couple of rear wheel studs - should i try this?
okay well i was trying to take a look at my brakes last night but i snapped one of the wheel studs trying to take off the wheel. i previously snapped one on this same hub awhile back but now i really have to do something about it since i only have two left.
since its sunday and not many shops are open today i've been spending all day on the internet trying to see if i might be able to tackle this myself at home. i've found a few good threads but i really don't want to use a slide hammer and risk damaging my wheel bearing only to replace that too.
but i found some pics of something this one guy did and i am seriously so close to running out and buying a dremel tool right now:
here is the thread these pics are from: http://www.superhonda.com/foru...81150
he grinded out a little channel that the studs could fit through so they can be hammered out

would anyone highly recommend *not* doing this? also, i think he did this on the front, so im wondering there is a spot you can do this to the rear as well..
what do you guys think?

How much of the stud is left? If it's not too long you could probably get it out without grinding a channel. I don't know if you're going to be able to hammer them out anyways... You could get a piece of metal, a thick sheet and then put clamps on either end and slowly clamp it down harder and harder on the stud and the stud should come out.
enough of the stud is left for me to still be able to screw a lug on pretty good, so i don't think it'll be small able to get it out.
i am really considering taking a dremel to the thing..

ok you're right they do pop out! sorry for being such a no0b. i guess since i wasn't finding anything about the rear studs i was worrying they would be really hard. but the hardest part was taking off those two screws that hold the rotor on! on my way to the auto parts shop now!
thanks for your help guys.

Yea, that is horrible cutting it like that. For the front usually enough snaps off that you can knock the old one out and just grind off a little of the head of the new one to clear going in. Or you can take a slide hammer and knock the hub out change the studs and slide hammer it back on.
