Default Need Help from a Painting Pro!!!!

Well My father and I are in the process of painting his Miata and for some reason we can't keep water from coming out of the gun and messing up the paint. As stupid as this sounds we have 3 in-line filters coming off the compressor and we still get drops of water.

Any Advice???

And another question is it ok to use reducer in the clear coat? If so how much should be used?

Thanks, Eric

old messed up filters? really dirty lines. maybe the water is coming from the car's hidden spots like gaps, tire well, door handle gaps... dont know what else it could be. do not use reducer in the clear coat. why would you need to anyway? only use recommended activator for ambient temperature and use same brand as the clear youre using. hope this helps

You need to invest in a good water/oil seperator and as far as reducer in the clear, it all depends on what brand you have. I know my DCU2021 by PPG is 4-1-1.

hot air leaving the tank is moving too quick and doesn't have a chance to condense. filters should be at least 25 feet away from the compressor to catch moisture.

i had the same problem and thought about coiling up the hose and setting it in a cooler filled with ice. ended up building this. the 3/4 copper piping has 3 traps and the water seperator has a trap. have yet to see a drop in the third trap, seperator or gun.

don't forget to drain the compressor. you can also use a dessicant trap that screws onto your gun.

The water is coming from the compressor and it does not matter if we drained it or not!

And I wanted to reduce it to make more. Everything has to be re-sprayed because of the water issue!

Ok cool! That must be the problem!
