How to fix rust holes?
How would i go about to fix some rust holes in the middle of trunk and hood? these started out as paint chips from rocks in the highway now they are holes the size of us quarters that have rusted. note this isnt a honda but I would like to know if there was a way i could fix this myself without payinf $400 for a body shop to do it.
It depends on how you want it to look. If you have no body work experience, and you want it to look factory, have a bs do it.
If you want to tackle it yourself, post pics and I'll try to guide you along.

I could care less how it turns out as long as i dont spend too much money on it its my moms car and shes ok with it like that but would like to tackle it myself gain some experience.
I will post pics when i get to the car.

I have like 4 of these on the trunk and 2 on the hood about the size of a quarter.

from my past autobody experience and my understanding, theres no good way to repair rust without cutting it out and welding new sheet metal in because once rust begins, its almost impossible to stop it or to keep it from spreading. If its a body panel thats easily replacable like a trunk, hood, door, etc, you're usually better off just replacing it with a used one that doesnt have any rust.

you could knock it down to bare steel. see how much metal you have left to work with and go from there. etch primer, and scuff and filler, and primer again. that is, if you ahve alot of metal left

I have I would say all the metal left i can rub my figure around that and it feels as if a few coats of paint would make it even since its on top of the car that rust is just from when it rains and stuff not like a rear quarter where the water puddles there and the snow and stuff.

sand it down to bare metal if can using a DA, then just use glaze, when you sand make sure you sand all the rust away. If its that bad where it basically through the metal, cut it out and weld a new piece in. but i don't know what are you capabilities in auto body, so... and if you even have a welder.
don't bother with a DA, just use a wire wheel and block your filler down by hand. when you're done blocking feather out your 180 hand scratches with 180 on a DA, then feather out your 180 with 320 overlapping about an inch or two before priming.

You need to convert the rust first. Sand it down, you will notice there is pinholes still. Buy a rust converter, then do all your body work on it.... If you put glaze or bondo over the sanded area, it will start to peel up...
Por15 works awesome for that sorta thing.

Knock the rust areas like that down as much as possible and use Metal Prep on it. Metal Prep is an acid that kills rust. I use it and works great for me, just follow the direction and you should be good. If you don't follow directions Metal Prep will make more rust on the bare metal areas. Rust is like cancer and will come back if not properly taken care of.
