engine Smoking problem....
I have an 89 Si hatch with the d16a6 and i got the basiic bolt ons. Header, exhaust and intake are all on it. When i start the car it runs fine and idles ok. It is throwing a code (7) which is for the throttle position sensor. When the car is running it tends to smoke white smoke out of the exhaust. No huge amount but you can see the smoke is there. When i rev the motor up or drive the car is smokes like crazy. My question is what could be causing this smoke. The cars exhaust smells almost like a lawnmower. Is it my rings? or could the Throttle Position Sensor be telling the car to give it more fuel then it needs and it could be running rich. One of my buddies said it could be caused by old gas. Anyone out there got any suggestions?
yeah most deffintly coolant... could be a head gasket... im kinda doughting that the TPS code has anything to do with the smoke... usually a tps just makes ur car run kinda shitty like jumpy and power loss...
well first we need to know how long its been doing this if he has done any engine work done where he took the head off and didnt sit right there a lot we need to know before we can say what happend so fill us in bro
yeah i dont think his TPS is the cause of this

Well the motor was bought as a recent rebuild. It has been smoking like this since it started to run after i bought the exhaust. My car has an Invidia 2.5 inch exhaust with a test pipe. I only have bolt ons and stuff but no internals were done. I have a head gasket at the shop so i guess i should just put it in it? I bought it because i thought it was the head gasket. It doesnt smoke real bad till the car basically warms up. Then it smokes real bad and if you rev the motor it smokes like crazy. So i guess i might as well replace the head gasket.

I had the exact same problem with mine but who ever rebuilt mine when i bought it off them put the head gasket on wrong an also my number 3 piston rings were broke in 3 places u should tear the head off an check it out
OK well i took the time and put the gasket on. and i have to say the motor was very very clean on the inside. The gasket wouldnt fit one way so i flipped it over and it fit on perfect. Now i have a problem. The car barely runs. I started it and it sounded like i had a nasty cam in it and it almost died. it also smoked like crazy. When i took the head off i dried the coolant up with rags. Then i put the gasket on and the head. Would this all be caused by the motor running the coolant of the pistons? i dunno wats going on but i got three scenerios
1. Head gasket is on wrong.
2. Coolant on the pistons.
3. I fucked something else up.
Let me know what you guys think it is.

did you check/look at the head to see if it is warped now?? a lot of times you may need to get it milled down after a blown HG from my expreience...especially if it was drive like that for any period of time.
