starter issues wondering if maybe a bad connection? PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!
ok so here is my issue, tonight (and remember that it has never done this before) i went to my friend's house and when i go to leave the car wont start just dead when i try, absolutely nothing. So we push start it and it fires right up so i shut her off. Try to start it again and it is really weak, not enough rpm's to fire so we push start again and i drive all the way home without incident. When i get home and shut it off i try to start it and it fires right up like it should. Just to let you know the times that it wouldnt start and i had the key in the ON position all accessories worked fine and the headlights were as bright as they should be including the dash. Now what i am wondering is do you guys think it is a bad starter or maybe just a loose connection somewhere?
My car did something like this. The starter was getting a bad connection and it would start when it wanted. Sometimes I would just hold it and 10 seconds later it would fire up. When it didn't start it wasn't even turning over. All accessories would work even if it didn't start. Anyhow, my problem was the starter. Replaced it and now I have no problems.
make sure the grounds and power connections are good and tight 1st...if they are then remove the power cables from battery, use a post cleaner to clean the battery and cable connections,,Then put a bunch of vaseline on the battery posts, and reconnect everthing tight..If that doesnt help come back.
my car has this same problem. Intermittent starting.
I'm too lazy to diagnose it right now so all I do is when it doesn't start I use a wire and jump the starter straight from the battery.
One of these days when I get a day off from work I'll probably end up fixing it.

on the starter there is the main power cable then there is a little connector that goes off the starter cable...probably goes to the solenoid..check that...
i will take a look at it today and maybe even get the starter tested at autozone. Whatever i find out i will post.
I have the same intermittent starting problem ive tested all cables and the problem is definitley starter solenoid but saw autozone has a starter solenoid repair kit for $13 or i even read in the honda factory service manual that you can just sand the solenoid contact points and point contacting face of the plunger with #500 or #600 sandpaper my starter is still good when it does crank so i dont see changing the whole thing has anyone tried either of these

Check your neg battery cable for corrosion also hit all the points with a good wire brush. Next check the pos battery cable repeat wire brush step. Another way to diagnose a bad cable is to jump from the positive battery cable to the starter. This is just a test not a solution.
when i opened up my solenoid the contacts were practically burnt through i bought the repair kit and fixed the problem saved a lot of cash
thanks for the help guys but i actually just bought a remanufactured starter for 40 bucks off of ebay and it works great. Thanks though for the responses.
