caught me way off guard. i was at the gas station and i saw a guy pull up in an em2.. it had rims, lowered, lip, sidemarkers... the lil stuff ya kno.. then he pops his hood... and guess what??? an r18 was sitting there..............sorry for the pointless thread but just thought i'd share since i dont think any1 has seen an r series in an em2

d17 and r18 look pretty much identical, besides their internals since r18 has higher compression.

Me thinks you were confused and it was just a d17....

 

They do look a lot alike. You might have just mistaken it. I'm not doubting it's possibility, but I do doubt it's likeliness. It'd probably cost just as much to put a K20A2 in the engine bay, and likely be less reliable.

no no no it was an r series. cuz the airbox was on the right side of the motor instead of the left.

Which would make it one of the strangest Honda swaps I've heard of.

 

oh nice, should've taken pics, i'm sure all of us would've liked to see them. did he say his reasoning behind that swap?

 

r-series motors aren't bad. 145hp on the 06+ civic ex. i'd take that over 110.

just wait until the r-series motors are down the $300 and people will be swapping them like crazy.

 

hopefully that will be a cheap alternative than a k series, but i highly doubt it

127hp 05 civic ex and 138hp 06 ex i beleive cause they bumped up the compression

 

i'd think its pointless to swap a econo motor for a econo motor yeah you'd get some more power and its defintly something new but like Toyomatt84 said the price for it now you could get a k and thanks to the fact their are more si's being made sedans and cpe's i see a good chance of a price drop soon for k's not to mention do they even make motor mounts to do that yet? (r-18 swap em2/es1 ) but if this guy did it good for him

 

maybe it was an 06 ex and he swapped the entire body...all the bumpers and fenders........... becauuussseee our cars look better??

 

ya i talked to the guy and he said his wife had an 06 ex and it got rear-ended and totaled and they only have liability insurance on it so he took the motor out of it and put it in his. he said it was an easy swap but to me the motor looked like it wasnt sitting square. like the left side was up a little bit more than the side with the tranny. but yea the r series is another possible swap option with lil mods in my opinion
