Default need advice again

-07 civic lx bought new on march 12 it was a march model.

-currently has 1,400 miles. so basically 4 1/2 months old

-what i was thinking about was the engine oil. Oil gets broken down and looses its viscosity so i have been told the oil was good for 6 months. well i probably wont get to % 15 since i am just on % 80.

-So i know this is soon to be asked but what will be my options?

-I am planing on getting the first oil change at Honda. Going to ask them to give me the oil filter so i can check the structure. ( will they give it back?) Go for about 2-3 K and then switch it off for Mobil 1 EP ( Wll start to do it by myself) and if i like the Oem filter structure i will go with Oem for my choice of filter. ( anyone have any pix? I belive they now come with the A02 version)

If not other choices are
- Purolator Pure 1
- NAPA Gold (WIX)
- Mobil 1
- K&N ( heard it doesnt filter aswell tho)

I use Mobil 1 and have had nothing but good results.

And btw, you are supposed to leave your original oil in the car for 5k miles... as stated in the manual.

OEM filter AND oil will be fine. Not to jinx you, but your car will get stolen, you will crash it, or sell it before you have an oil/filter related issue with the engine. Just stick with Honda products.

If you want to go full synthetic, go with RP or Amsoil. There are still speculations as to the true "synthetic" nature of the Mobil1 oils. I, personally, will not use Mobil1 anymore.

yes 5 k or so but it varies on driving style untill you reach the 15 percent. the life of my oil will just start getting worse and worse becasue it has been just sitting there over time.

as for mobil1 not being a full synthetic. i dont mind. on the basic 5-20 Test that i did Mobil 1 EP was actually better then Amsoil and Royal purple. Sure its not a Poe 5 synthetic but mobile still can out beat those because mobil 1 knows how to make good oil and has been in the game for a long time.

plus its a lx and a daily driver so i dont need the best.

thanks fr the replies

Honda says that if you do not see the 15% mark within 1 year to change the oil. I had a lady in the other day who had her car for 12 months and had 7xx miles on it.... i almost **** myself. But alas, it was 1 year so i was obligated to recommend an oil change .

I just switched to Royal Purple oil and i love it, i used mobil 1 in the past and it was ok... but RP is better IMHO

well i bought the car and then i was out of work for a month so the car was just driven to a store or just to cruise.
i started working again and so now i make a 18 miles a day and thats about it. so thats how i have to little miles. my dads car is a 96 chevy cavalier and it has 70k all original original owner.

non the less i hear the oil from the factory is special so lets say if i replace the oil at 2-3 k with honda genuine will that effect the sealing of the rings?

Break in oil is bull. I got flamed for ditching mine at 1800 miles and then synthetic at 500 and my car runs like a champ and gets nearly 40 mpg highway. Mobil 1 FTW BTW.

Break-in oil is not bull. However, you probably won't notice a difference if you dump it early. I'd just do what the manual says. This isn't Daytona, after all.

I bought my car 3 weeks ago. My oil life is at 70% and my mileage is at 2650 miles. Yeah, I drive a lot...

Dealership said they'd mail me a voucher for a free oil change at the dealership for my first one, but somehow I don't think it's gonna come before I need to get my first change done... I think I'm gonna hit 5k miles by end of August.
