A Cool 'Fighter
Well, a lot has happened with this motorcycle. I haven't been posting about everything I've done because I wanted to be like ninja. What you will see below may shock you. What you see below, also, is close to being The Finished Product. Enjoy my story. And my debt.
I am lucky that this month the pay schedule leaves me with three checks. The normal two-check-cycle wouldn't cover my binge. I don't really even remember what I bought... I only immediately recall the last thing that I installed. A strange non-coincidence of events lead me to become unhappy with my F4: I was uncomfortable with the F4, the clip ons were too low, the rearsets were too high, the plastics were too cumbersome to take off all the time... and I bought a SuperMoto in March. I dreamed that one motorcycle could be comfortable the way the SuperMoto is, and quick enough to put a grin on my face and still get me down the highway the way the F4 did. What happened... is this.
Renthal Fatbars. A special headlight from Yurop. Paint, paint, and more paint. New carb jets. A new exhaust. Regular rearsets. 599 cables. Veypor. Tires. My credit card a'splode.
.... and an attic for the plastics.
It started life like this.

And ended up a streetfighter.
Enjoy.

The bike, and all my F4 parts, of which there are a metric ton, will be for sale for the right price. My priorities have changed a little. Make an offer - I'll get pics and a list of all the parts for anybody seriously interested.

"We will save most of the technical background of this bike for our full review, a bit later on. For now, understand that the 599 features the 599cc engine from the Honda CBR600F3 -- Honda's supersport machine until replaced by the F4 in 1999. The power plant has been retuned from supersport status with smaller carburetors, longer intake tract and longer head pipes for more low-to-midrange oomph. The chassis, similar to the Honda 919 introduced in the U.S. a couple of years ago, is a steel mono-backbone design."
wow that's impressive
If the Honda 599 has been the largest selling bike in all of Europe the last two full calendar years (2001 and 2002)"
it would've been great if they released it here at the same time. 5 years later it is still outdated
carb'd motor =
this is 2007, no excuse for a non FI bike
I'm not saying this thing isn't fun, but is it a "great" bike. Hell no. Honda should be ashamed for releasing something with such old technology (things like the kawi 500r and 250r are unchanged but great bikes) and try and charge as much as they are. Plus it's boring looking. At least kawi with the z1000 made the bike flashy and it turns heads.
fz6 and sv650 are much better choices for that class of bike then the 599. Honda has to play catch up in the naked bike market

Holy Ignorant...
Its not meant as a competitor with the RR. It competes with the SV650 and similar bikes.
Not all bikes need the latest technology or go-faster goodies.
And it sure sucks to have that "shitty carb'd motor" that can get 50+ MPG.
Did you ignore the rest of the reviews, where they say what a great bike it is, how it handles very well, is very comfortable, and a lot of fun to ride?
Or how it equals or beats the SV650 in every category?
The ONLY thing the sv650 does better is in its price.

While not on the topic of the 599, I'll agree to this. Honda seems to be behind other major brands in the tech department.
In the lower CC's category (250 and lower) Honda still has drum brakes front...while many of it's competitors have front disks, between other advancements.
And the Hondas are generally more expensive than Yammys, Zukis and Kawas, while offering less for the money.
All of this, is coming from my experience with the low budget, low cc bikes you see in the third world. Not talking about SS or nakeds.
