cheap reliable turbo kit
im doing a gsr swap but i want to turbo my d16 for the time being? just woundering if anyone has or knows where i can get a cheap reliable full kit to bolt on there. plans to give the turbo d16 to my lil bro. any help would be great. i have about $700 to throw away on it can get more if needed. thanks
http://www.homemadeturbo.com your goal of a COMPLETE bolt on kit for $700 wont happen, unless reliability isnt an issue. tuning alone for a boosted motor SHOULD cost you half of your budget if you do it CORRECTLY.
Ebay piping. Junkyard dsm turbo, used turbo parts etc.
Shop around. Some people sell their used greddy turbo kits for $1200-1500.
IMO, that would be worth it, paying an extra $400-600 for a complete kit.

Greddy makes one you can get on eBay for around $1200 if you play your cards right. Or you could get one used from the marketplace for maybe cheaper.
Also, if you have no smog laws, or they're pretty lax where you live, I would suggest piecing together your own kit with a smaller turbo from Greddy. Cheap, reliable because of a newer turbo, and a nice source of modest power for your D-series

maybe an ebay kit for 700 but dude -- cheap doesnt not equal reliable. not bustin ***** or anything. but if you are going to do something like that..you HAVE to spend the money on every aspect just to make sure its going to be done right.
cheap kits = cheap parts
**** like that can end up just failing or worse...messin your car up

Well, it was only a matter of time before someone reminded this guy of the old automotive addage so, here it is.
There are three things that all men want their cars to be:
-Cheap
-Fast
-Reliable
Unfortunately, they can only choose two.

tell him girls dont care about fast, they would rather see one slammed.
my little brother (15yrs old) was the same way, wanted to spend every dime on his car when he got it, i think i got him to change his mind. SAVING MONEY FOR YOUR FUTURE IS A MUCH WISER INVESTMENT THAN PUTTING IT INTO A CAR.

Sorry I just read that. If you're swapping it, leave the d-series the hell alone. Any money you spend on it will be money lost. D-series even built or turboe'd still have significantly lower value than used b-series or turbo b-series.
Leave it alone.

yeah. he needs to sell the d series and use my 700 and the money from the sell and get mom to give him some more for at least a b16 .
Good idea, but if you want to have the kid "baptized by fire," make sure he just gets a turbo for his D-Series, so he learns how to work on it due to the maintainence and babying a turbo engine will need.

Bleh... As long as you do the turbo system right, routine maintenance is all you have to screw with. Reliable turbo cars cost more than 700 bucks, though.

Lol, true. I'm just saying, one needs to be in tune with their car and bond with it if they want to keep that turbo running at max efficiency. This I think could be good for an aspiring Honda tuner, to get him savvy from the get-go.
