Economy inner tie rod end
91 Civic Hatchback STD.
Advance Auto offers an economy inner tie rod end for $12.00 vs the TRW for $30.00
Has anyone compared the two to see what the difference is (other than $18.00)?
I can visibly see my passenger side inner tie rod end move in when I press on the wheel with it in the air, so I think I need to replace it soon.

That's what I was going to do but the TRW is a special order (I'm not sure but the economy may be also). I asked for pricing on both the inner and outer tie rod ends.
I can't believe the $12.00 econ would be a safety issue otherwise it wouldn't be sold, but you never know.

Actually it looks like the economy is in stock! Apparently, the economy one sells!

Well, I got under the car this weekend and moved the inner tie rod end boot and found that isn't the problem. The movement is coming from the rack itself. If I push in the wheel at 3 and 9, I can see movement at the bar that goes into the rack, past the inner tie rod end. I jacked it up on the passenger side, leaving the driver side on the ground. I can see the steering wheel turn just a little when I push in on the tire. But the movement is definately coming from the rack bar that attaches to the inner tie rod end.
Is this a rack bushing problem? It's not wearing the tire at all. BTW, the mechanic at the garage I took it to diagnosed it as a bad OUTER tie rod end.

Its the rack end bushing, #10 in this diagram. They are always worn on higher mileage Hondas.

Thanks for the info.
Would this cause the inward movement?
Does this pose a safety hazard?
Is there a description somewhere detailing how to replace this part? The search mechanism is down at this time.
