Default vss trouble

first off my car is a 96 hatch with a b18c1 bottom with itr pistons and rods, b16 head with R cams, boomslang ecu harness to PR3 ecu. OK, my car is running like its in safe mode, it has slow rev's and is really slow, only rev's to 7500 rpm, but takes forever to get there. Its really sluggish. I have only 2 codes, 41 (o2 sensor) and 23 (knock sensor). I know these codes do not make my car go into safe mode or limp mode, it just makes in not run as good as it should. But the thing is my speedo is not working, it does NOT throw code 17 even after driving the car around. Since my speedo quit working, my car started acting up like this. So, I've tried replacing the gauge cluster just to see if it had a effect on it cause i had a extra one laying around. Then I tried to replace the speed sensor with a d-series one, but still no good. All fuses are good too. Also, the speed sensor worked in the car the trans came from just 2 days ago, so why would it not work as soon as i swapped it in my car and not throw a code. Any idea's or should i just pick up a b-series one even tho this one could still possible be good cause its not throwing a code for it.

92-93 were cable driven speedo's if i remember correctly..

yeah, early today it did throw the code....now it doesnt at all. Also, the pr3 ecu worked in a eg coupe and the speed sensor worked. BTW my trans is a 99 b16. I need to get another ecu for sure, but i want to get everything working first

reasearched it...

nvm..i was correct about the cable driven speedo but apparently it has nothing to do with the cable...the cluster itself has wiring in it to tell the ecu what and how fast its going...

and your right on that its B10...its suppose to be an orange or brown wire going to it...

that would be the one coming from the dizzy to the cluster for the tach...

if i remember correctly...

apparently andy its a 50/50 shot it could be your 02 sensor causing this damage as well..

i did a search and people say sometimes it goes into safe mode...sometimes people can still beat the living day lights out of there cars...

i'm off to bed but i think tommarow you should check the following

check timing on the belt side...
make sure all wiring is the best it can be
check grounds....we all know how grounds are....it could be this....

you don't have to pull everything apart to check the timing on the belt side..

just look at the pulley and match it up to the mark on the timing cover make sure your at TDC first...

then look at the cams and see if there golden...if your convinced the timing is A1 then move on....its proboly something retarded....

if its acting sluggish and wont rev past 7500

my bet would be timing off a tooth somewhere

let me sleep on it and ill think of something lol

put a 02 sensor in it see if it does better first off

car is way rich...put new plugs in and they're solid black now...lol, im gonna gout and put in a new o2 and check my wiring for the knock sensor to get rid of those check engine lights. My timing gun will be here late tonight, so i'll have a chance to check it out . Also....Zach, im gonn try that speed sensor off you. Throttle response is kinda poor, it not revving correctly at all

to you have the TPS and MAP sensor plugs crossed? that would be the first thing id check. it would cause your car to run extremly rich.

what ever the problem is, it has nothing to do with the knock sensor or the vss.

i got a boomslang obd2a to obd1 harness....i tried using my stock y8 obd2a ecu to see if anything happens...and it was still the same. If i find out that the timing is perfect and i get a that speedo from Zach and it still doesnt fix anything, i'll want to try out that ecu of yours for sure

yea my ecu has a dyno tunned basemap of my ls/vtec when it was stock so it should work pretty good on your motor.
