you cant use a aluminum downpipe lol. it will melt. you can however use a aluminum exhaust after the downpipe.

nice first post but im talking about a downpipe connected to a turbo.

and no i dont have personal experience. i have facts. im not stupid enough to use a aluminum downpipe. WHY?

aluminums melting point is 1220.58 °F

egts get that high. its either going to melt over time or be very very pliable. now what are the pros of using a aluminum downpipe since you seem to have one.

Physics owns you.

Yes aluminum has a low melting point, BUT the oxide layer that forms over aluminum in a matter of minutes from contact with the oxygen in the air has a melting point over 2000 degrees F.

It could melt depending on the motor design and output, but hondas are awesome and can burn most of the fuel inside the combustion chamber instead of letting it burn in the exhaust manifold.

That's chemistry not physics But you have the correct concept
Alumina (aluminum oxide) has a melting point that is twice as high as elemental aluminum.

Notice he also mentioned it would get soft before it melted. I don't think any of us expect the downpipe to drip off, but at 600-700*F and a stiff suspension, I can't imagine it being good.

My aluminum downpipe is holding up great. I was a bit weary about doing it, but figured what the hell, let's see if it'll work. We can argue all day long about what works or doesn't work on paper...

If you were real concerned, you could just get it ceramic coated inside, would drop temps by 100 degrees I'm sure.

There's an EASY 10lbs weight savings in a 4" al. dp vs. a 4" SS. 10lbs is big in drag racing...

Dude, go to a race track and look around. You think Precision Turbo would sell 42r aluminum downpipe flanges if it didn't work? I don't have pics of mine right now, but i'll get you some if you still don't believe it.
